You have to buy the adapter, any 3.5mm microphone will do.

I've had about 5 mics they all pretty much give the same result.

I bought 2 $1 mics of eBay and they work a treat. The devil is what they are plugged into. Either drill your Gopro housing so you can plug a mic direct, or buy a good quality voice recorder with mic sensitivity and noise canceling functions. If you watch my first vlog that was done with my standard earbuds plugged into my iPhone.

ATR3350 Omnidirectional Condenser Lavalier Microphone on Accidental Broacasts recommendation. Used a soldering iron to make the initial hole in the side of the Hero 3 case and then filed the rest out. It took about an hour. Not sure why everyone is so hot and bothered about it. Given, it'd be nice if they had a skeleton case, but they don't, so make due.

Making a vlog tomorrow wit the new setup. Will report back how it turns out. In house testing sounds phenom.

nah i have the Drift Ghost, not the gopro, we have normal 3.5mm Mic jacks. not crazy USB ones.
