Ha ha. I'm proper old school, when someone displays the courtesy to comment on one of my videos, I feel an obligation to sift through the About section of their channel, or the comments on their own video to see if their name is mentioned. I always feel the effort deserves a personalised reply.
Its never dawned on me that someone might want to use an alias.

I like to do the same thing - but only if they publicly list or state their name in their videos... otherwise, I just use the channel name.Ha ha. Haha, I almost messaged you the other day to be like how did you know my name….. ? You replied to my comment on your video using my first name (Adam) out of interest where did you find it out? Didn’t bother me but I was surprised you figured out my name as it’s not in about or anywhere else. (It’s in 1 comment on an old video!)Ha ha. I've watched waaaay to many VidIQ channel reviews. When I scout about a commenters channel I look at their most recent work, then sort by popular and take a look at that. I'll also have look across the history for anything in particular that jumps out at me. Your name was mentioned in your most popular video from Mallory Park.

My given name is Stephen, and my Mother always used to go mental when my friends called me Stevie.
My Mrs calls me Stevie in jest, and when refering to me with her pals, and my bike pals call me Stevie out of familiarity, so when I started tubing, I decided to run with it. I felt it was friendlier.
In the early days I used to introduce myself at the start of every film, as I always felt people would want to know who they were watching, and didnt want to assume folk would know who I was.
I deliberately put my name in my about section, as I want to build a connection with the audience.
Sometimes people call me Soggy which I dont mind, but for the non Scot, Soggy Baws is an expression Scottish bikers use for having wet testicles from riding in the rain. Baws is how we say balls.
When I tell a Scottish person the channel name, they usually laugh out loud. It's always heartening when an ex pat see's it and makes the connection
