First, love the intro.

Now, you have good point about rushing from one problem into another. Looking ahead is a good idea.

As far as people acting out just because they feel they will not get caught. The #bikelife folks that make it rough on the rest of us think they do not care about getting caught. My experience has been very few people are truly as tough or counter culture as they project to be.

I think people sometimes become too comfortable with having conflicting belief sets. Simple example is "don't judge a book by its cover" and "if it looks like duck...".

So apply that issue to us riders. A biker of a different subgroup, X, runs loud pipes and raises heck. A biker of subgroup B sees X acting out and they talk badly about how X riders are this or that. Some time passes and B does the same thing X did but it is different because some variable changed. Or is it?

I am going to quote a riding buddy of mine from about 30 years ago, "A real biker only puts himself in danger. An idiot puts everyone else in danger."

I think in general I see a lot more people running red lights, blocking box junctions pulling out into smaller and smaller gaps and it gets worse when there are roadworks or other issues, it's as if people think all rules are canceled if there are temporary lights.

Yeah, we have those problems too with folks cutting off each other in traffic. I find that many non-riders are amazed I feel safer on a bike than a car.

I have more room to move in my lane, can stop faster, speed out of the way easier, etc. on my bike.

Does not make what the other person did acceptable though.

Do you share my impression that it's getting worse and the people involved in the bad behavior are no longer the type you would expect?

On some levels, yes. Part of the blame lies with what we tolerate as a society from persons in positions of leadership/power. But that is whole another long debate...
