General What Would You Have Done?

Here in Norway, you can cross a red if its safe and you have waited more than 2 minutes.
I think the reason for this wait is simply that the sensors in the ground doesn't sense a bike because its light.
Would the bicycle area have more sensitive sensors maybe?

It's 2 minutes here in Virginia, USA as well. I'm surprised you waited as long as you did haha. I would have gone sooner I think.

I wasn't in a rush and was surprisingly optimistic that it would change. Yeh i learned you can go cautiously if the light is faulty and these particular ones are a bit shit for bikes.

Apparently its similar here but not as black and white. The highway code leaves it pretty vague so its a good job i've got the video or i would've been fucked if caught going through.

I'll have to correct my statement. In Norway you can cross safely if the lights shift 3 times and you are still on red.

I asked my teacher this on my riding lesson today. Said it was decided after a ton of discussion all over the place.

This is the rule in our highway code:

You MUST NOT move forward over the white line when the red light is showing. Only go forward when the traffic lights are green if there is room for you to clear the junction safely or you are taking up a position to turn right. If the traffic lights are not working, treat the situation as you would an unmarked junction and proceed with great care.

It just kind of leaves its a bit vague for my liking. Without a video you could never prove that they weren't working and i doubt they'd find any faults if it was a simple case of the bike not activating the sensor. I think your rules seem better. Having a number to aim for is good otherwise some people would literally be sat there all day or they'd panic and just blast through it.

Hmm, yeah that is way too vague. This is where the cops would have to judge based on the situation, and I don't see how explaining without the video would be invalid, unless they got an agenda against motorcycles that is.
