What Is The Best Camera To Use?

Hey guys so I'm currently using the gopro hero 3+ is there a better camera for video quality or will they all look the same once edited?

Cue people coming on here telling people what they use is the best. ;)

Can't really say, as I'm newish Ive only ever used the drift ghost hd. It gives good quality footage, ok audio but the hd has an annoying tinnitus whine when a mic is plugged in, they fixed it for the s version, but I've not realy tested at night ( I might get the s version when autumn rolls in). I've heard bad and good about the two main ones gopro and drift.

The only thing that's happened with my drift is that the anti-fog material became saturated because of riding in the rain too much with it and it caused fogging on the screen and lens. An easy fix, take the battery out and let it dry the inside overnight.

Apart from that it's been great, battery life at 720p 60fps is ok. From my own pov it lasts about 2:15-3:00 hours but I'm assuming that's gonna change when it gets colder as batteries drain quicker in the cold.

Im tempted to get a drift stealth 2 for an alternate view as they're only £150.

All that said, if what you're using is producing good enough quality stick with it. You can check a vid of mine out to see the quality of the ghost hd (with a bit of editing in premiere pro), captf has a drift ghost s, so you can check his out for that. I'm not sure who has the gppro 4 versions but someone on here will.

The whine can be fixed by roling back a firmware version or by sending it back to Drift. I sent mine back and they replaced the camera.

A lot of people seem to be having issues with Drift. AndyManCam for example has moved away from them after numerous issues.

With the GoPro you get short battery life and you really have to chin mount it. Chin mount is easily the best view but not all helmets can accommodate it so you have to consider that.

Sony cameras are a pain in the arse to get audio from.

So... none are great :p

As a photographer as well, I will tell you our mantra:
The best camera is the one you have on you.

This is because there is no singular best camera that suits everything. There are more recommended ones, depending on what you aim to do, but the crucial part is: you have a camera on you.

Some cameras are good for the chatty vloggers, where visual quality isn't important, and others suit those that record their fun rides.

As 'Miffedy said, I use a Ghost S and the quality seems good [I lose a fair bit of audio quality because my helmet isn't the best for noise.] Battery life is ~2.5 to 3 hours, at 1080p 30fps - that's because using the remote for the drift eats battery, and I can never get the consistent button presses without it (:

And what`s about black magic micro? It`s the new one, isn`t there yet; but seems to be awesome

The best camera is the one you can afford.
I currently use Sony at 1080/60fps but have just purchased another Drift because I believe they are a better quality picture.

I have gopro, drift, and sony. I can honestly say they are pretty much the same. With youtube they all look about the same in quality when uploaded. It really comes down to which one you like the best. No need to upgrade if the one you have works. Only reason I have multiple is from gifts and I used to use them off road and needed more than one angle.

I got screwed by Drift Innovations. turns out not all ghost are water proof and they will not cover it. anyways I got insurance with it through amazon their gonna give me a refund for 177.00 USD which is what i paid for it when it was on sell but should try another drift (not going anywhere near water again) or try gopro 3 white edition both are 199.00USD at the moment. any input from gopro 3 white edition users?

They advertise Ghosts as waterproof with the full door on, but not the door with flaps. If you had the full door on, it's their problem.

I use a gopro hero 3+ black and its fantastic. Both visuals and when paired with a Sena 20S BT and their gopro pack its not too bad for a wireless setup. Still having issues with setting up the UHD mic on mine though.

I had the correct back on. A drift rep did get back in touch with by email today so hopefully they will resolve the issue

Yup look at your budget and then decide on the features you want / need.

Personally I use a Drift Ghost-S for the simple reason it is so simple to setup and use on a day to day basis. The equivalent Hero gives better video quality (just) but I find it too much a faff for a everyday/ride camera.

So drift for me simply because one click and two presses on a button and Im off. Quick mount and release and swivel lens also helps!
