What Do You Use To Promote Yourself?

I've set up a Twitter and Instagram account for the channel, and I know I can use Facebook and some people even use business cards.

Just wondering if anyone has their own little way to market themselves :P

Business cards can be pretty useful if you want to promote yourself locally. Walteriffic does that a lot. I tried using Facebook, but it really didn't do that much for me. I'm getting about the same views and I'm not even on Facebook anymore. All of my vids automatically upload to Twitter when I post them, but I'm not sure about how much traffic I get from Twitter as I really don't use it that much. I'm thinking about trying the business card thing. I could make a pack with my business card and a sticker and hand them out when I'm out and about.

I'm more on Facebook than Twitter. My Twitter's really empty, no one follow me there anyway when FB is more popular with people outside the US and Japan.

That's probably true. One thing I noticed with mine is the YouTube people tended to not look at my page on FB and the FB people would watch my vids from FB but not really be active on YT. When I left FB people that followed my page wondered where I went, but never really bothered to look me up on YT, unless they were already subbed to me.

I do the lot really. Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, google plus, and naturally YouTube.

Also have stickers.

They all kinda do bugger all for the channel as others have said if they find you on one they don't tend to move over to the others.

Good point, I think I'll probably stick to just a couple tbh. Btw where'd you get your stickers designed/made? Wouldn't mind looking into it for the future :)

I did the design, then got them printed at sticker app. May or may not use them again.

Some people play it safe and cover all bases, bases being social media platforms. You can do that, at the cost of having to manage, update, and promote yourself on all those platforms. Will the rewards/returns be worth it if you cover all platforms?

Most people will choose their preferred platforms, which typically are platforms which they themselves use the most often.

Some use the business card approach, some use the sticker approach, some do both.

What others do may not yield the same result should you follow their method. The best would be to do what is comfortable for you, according to your own preference.

Since you claim to be just starting out, perhaps it's a good approach to keep it manageable first, so you don't have to overdo yourself trying to keep all your platforms current. As you grow then you can decide if you should expand yourself.

For myself, I did not even plan that far at all. It was just YT, posted vids for fun, then it started to pick up, so I just setup a page on FB since I'm always lurking there. After that, someone was using my logo on IG and people thought that was me, so I had to put myself in IG. As for the other platforms, I don't think I will be on them, although I did make a Twitter account, just cause I was bored. Thanks @RoninK6 being my one and only follower there. LoL.

Nope unless it looks exactly like mine lol

Hey good idea! Is yours copyrighted? ;)

Thanks for the great advice! I made a Facebook page to go alongside the Twitter / IG (figured I can atleast share my IG posts to the page) but I think I'll keep it at that for now. Not much other social media I know well anyways o_O

I do want to look into stickers as it'd be cool to have an actual item with my own branding, and stickers are the cheapest thing for that (plus they're universal, unlike clothing) but I need to finish up this logo design first. Just need to recreate it in some design software hehe.

I really like the business card thing, but would it seem kind of rip-off ish to cheesy to do something like that? I mean Walteriffic is huge and that was kind of his thing for a while right, so would it come off as a knock off to do something similar?

I say the more the better, but it is time consuming. I spend about an hour sharing each of my videos on forums, on FB, Twitter and IG. You can auto-share across platforms, but for the most impact you really have to customize the content for each. That's why it takes a while.

But each vehicle has benefits and unique users. You can focus on one and really do it right and be fine. But, you'll be missing out on the other users that don't use Twitter, Facebook, etc. On the other hand, trying to do them all and doing them all poorly isn't very effective either.

I think physical items come later. There's isn't a reason to make stickers or cards to hand out when you're first getting started. get some momentum, then look at investing in handouts or merch.
