I use a rucksack on my bike which has straps that I do round my waist to hold it on. These bags are quite common from what I have seen on a motorcycle. This morning, I was coming out of the garage and my neighbor shouted stop at me. This confused me as we don't usually talk, when he got over to me he pointed at the chain of my bike, unbeknownst to me the strap, which I forgot to do up had become lodged in the chain. If I had not been shouted at my guess is that either the strap would have screwed up the bike or pulled me off as I was riding. CHECK FOR STRAPS PEOPLE!

Lesson Learned...

Anyone else had any close calls like this?

Only near miss like that I've had is almost riding off with my disc lock on (didn't have the 'reminder' on that day for reasons I forget).

Haha, yeah. Long straps, the clip for them though is in the middle of the straps so there is loads of excess

wow very lucky, fortunately my straps are not that long to reach the chain, but there have been many times where I forget to do them up and have a little panic!

I have fabric panniers on my bike, and they have really long straps that fall down If I don't tuck them in. I don't check them as often as I should..

Note to self; Check straps tomorrow..

Had to use bungie cords to hold my panniers on in Italy because the glue holding the fabric on started to melt and they front was falling apart.

I was warned about it before I left and my panniers had been recalled for it, but I didn't want to give them in because I needed to use them.

The panniers themselves were fine (apart from when the right side one got hit by a Honda Hornet) but the bungie cords fell off a few times on several Italian motorways and kept bouncing off my chain.

Thank god I had Chessecake in my ears telling me to stop!
