If you use external power on the camera, it's very likely that you'll damage the USB port and make it inoperable. This has happened to me twice - I found a work-around to avoid it happening again.
Most of you probably know to transfer files by putting the SD card into your computer card slot - it's faster and also reduces wear on the USB port in the camera, which is very weak.
The advantages of using external power are longer recording times, less stopping to change batteries and of course less charging time between trips. If you're on a several day long tour this is very helpful.
It also means you don't put a vlog up saying "the next bit was awesome but the battery ran out..."
I hope this will help others to avoid damaging their cameras.
