Just found a kickstarter project for a new type of motorcycle light. It will blink rather than be solid, making it more perceivable. The best bit though, is that it works when you release the throttle and downshift. I used to get whinged at by my motorcycle trainer for not showing i was braking. Since a lot of the time an engine break and downshift is all that's required. I think its awesome personally and hope if they get enough backers, it will be made to fit UK licence plates too.

Got the vid on my site... http://revelintheride.com/vololights-a-safer-brake-light/

In theory its a good idea! At least it it cant hurt!

But those people that cant tell they are getting closer to you AREN'T looking!

Big F-off bike, Big person on the back. Lights and everything! And still SMIDSY!

Would be funny if you could have letters light up though...... "Have you seen me?" lol! "Stop staring at my arse" lol "If you get closer you can touch it" lol

I'm not sure.. it reminds me when they introduced the middle brake light on cars because no one was noticing the two on the sides of the cars. Won't this eventually have the same issue and we'll have to add another flashing light?

Also, shouldn't the rider be taught to hold the brake lever/pedal in slightly to illuminate the brake light? I was taught this when going for my license and it sort of negates their invention.

Unfortunately here in the U.S.A. rider education courses are not mandatory to get your motorcycle endorsement. If you have the skills, you can take the written and road test and be on your way. Many people just say F-it and ride without the proper license requirements. There again comes to another point, the ones who take rider courses are more aware of safety and already take precautions to make themselves more visible so the vololights become a moot point.
