Vinyl Wrapping

Hi all

has anyone had any experience with vinyl wrapping, in light of my recent bike drop instead of getting the fairing resprayed i might just vinyl wrap it to instead cover up the damage and give some lasting protection to the rest of the bike.

I am a bit tight with money and as such wouldn't want to have to pay out for a professional company to do it, i think if time is spent correctly it probably can be done alright especially as the fairing can be removed and taken indoors in the warm etc

Any help or guidance will be much appreciated

I would not recommend doing this yourself unless you are well practised in it bud to be honest.

I think it's going to be a bit harder than you anticipate. Wrapping a bike isn't going to be like wrapping a car. There's lots of small bits, and very complex curves. Also, you're going to want to find a way to hold the fairings with a fair bit of force, you've got to put tension on the wrap and keep it there while it's being applied. That's a lot easier on a 4,000lb car than a 3lb fairing that's not only flexible, but also awkwardly shaped.

However, if you manage to do it right, it'll look good most likely.

Yeah, im just thinking of ALL those times when ive put a large sticker on something, and that just had to be a bastard, you get that stupid bubble right in the middle. You peel it again, now you have a wrinkle and another bubble elsewhere and then you notice,

I think if you are going to do it, get someone to wrap it for you. If they stuff it - 'Warranty'.

So much easier than painting.

I've wrapped some of the pieces of my Ninja 300 in a carbon fibre vinyl earlier this year. I can tell you it was a bit of a bitch and I'm not overly happy with the job I done to be honest although I think if I was to do it again I would be able to do better now that I have some experience. I'm pretty sure that the is different grades of adhesive they use on it so some are removable while some are permanent so look into that too. I believe mine is the removable kind and in some places it has started to bubble but this could be my fault and not the vinyl. Overall I'm happy enough with the result, I just let myself down with my average work.
