F4celess
Cold
So a couple of weeks ago I was starving for something to vlog about. Winter was approaching fast and I was running out of rideable days.
But then it occurred to me. Winter means snowmobiles, so I thought to myself I'd check out the local dealer and maybe vlog about snowmobiles.
A quick google revealed that not only did Yamaha launch a new snowmobile those days, but they were on tour around Norway and were showing it off at the local dealer that saturday.
So I went there, and with my DSLR I filmed various aspects of this new sled. It was a brand new Yamaha Sidewinder 998 with a goddamn Turbo. I got some good footage of it and another sled + some other junk.
When I had it all edited out I chose to narrate it via voiceover. I'm not cool enough to vlog in public like that yet. Add that I had to be kinda quiet when recording so the narration ended up being barely enough. Either way, I posted it, thinking it would be just another filler...
WRONG
2 weeks, 600 views(20 is the norm), no new subs because shitty VO, audience retention is exactly as long as the actual snowmobile footage and 40% of the traffic is from winterly Canada.
So in the end it was a giant missed opportunity. People are looking for any footage on new machines, and I failed to make a decent video on it, having underestimated the demand for such footage.
TLDR; Make sure to cover launch events for new bikes and tag your vid well, also avoid shitty VO.
Funny thing is, this is not the first time a sub-par thing I made got popular. 5-6 years ago I spent 20 mins making a Minecraft meme by photoshopping myself a blocky hand. Its still viral in the Minecraft community.
