Tags...why They Are Important.

So, before I put the final cut out in to the YouTube ether I spent a couple of hours researching tag words to use. The formula I was looking for was highly or moderately searched and low competition. I spent about 2 hours and ended up with 11 tags. All were optimal to have a decent hit rate and since I'm more interested in watch time and views than I am subscribers I was anxious to see how it would play out when the video went live. Couple that with good metadata involving those researched tag words.

Well 24 hours later I'm sitting at 24 subscribers with just over 400 views on that specific video with an average watch time of 5 minutes on a 7 minute video. Those are great numbers and I'm climbing about 10 to 15 views every 2 hours now. Granted I'm not pulling subs just yet but I am increasing my chances of YouTube's algorithm promoting the video in the side bar. Theoretically the subs will follow eventually.

Tags are important if you understand how YouTube works. Those 11 tags have done more good than any other leech tag I've tried before. Some people get lucky...I prefer to see if I can work the system to find viewers and people who enjoy my content. Spending some time researching tags is well worth the time you are going to put into it and the pay off is satisfying. When you've worked hard on a video it's a great morale boost to see it getting the attention you think it should.

Research those tags guys. What you do after you're done editing is just as important as the work you put into making entertaining content.

What video did you use and focus tags before uploading?

Tags are hit and miss, but can work . Your titles and descriptions can do far more, same as posting times blah blah

Be interested in having a look to see if it's tags and that alone as rarely is

where are you using research for tagging and metadata? I looked at tube buddy but dont want to drop $99 right away for it. May look at doing it in the very near future once more supplemental income presents.

Yeah, I don't pay for TubeBuddy. I just utilize the free version as best as I can. It's nice to see that #10 rank on that tag, it shows me I'm on the right track. Yeah YouTube suggests a video title that covers the same words as your metadata and your tags. Any chance that you can multiply the algorithm hit is better. The locations are my local area and are searched pretty heavily with no real competition so I wanted to put them in there to get a more local crowd. It's like handing out spam cards with out really doing anything.

I was also always under the impression that single word tags were the way to go because I thought they would cover a wider spectrum of viewers and those who were searching. I also did an experiment where through TubeBuddy I stole all of the tags from a popular vloggers video just to see if that worked....It didn't. Don't pay for TubeBuddy unless you want to, it will take longer to research tags and titles using the free version which I don't mind doing if it saves me 40 to 100 bucks.

I honestly think tailoring tags and titles to your channel's specific content is the way to go. I'm sharing everything that I can because I think there are a lot of good content creators here that deserve a better platform but might not know exactly how to go about doing it. Personally I'd like to see the rage vloggers bumped from the spotlight and that spotlight given to vloggers with substance and engaging content. Not mindless quick cuts of zero context clips.

I enjoy the research and understanding their algorithm. No high sub big name will want to tell you how they did it because the less competition they have to more money that's theirs to keep. I don't care lol I'd rather share the information and not try and keep people down. The motovlogging community will always progress and change and if I can influence that change in any way to a more substantial direction and not letting motovlogging turn in to a "Greatest motovlog fails and rage of 2016" genre, then I'll do it.
