Suggestions For A2 Motorcycles?

Well, after almost 4 years of riding on CBTs, I'm finally headed towards completing my A2 License. (In UK, 21 years old).

I'm looking to any experienced and licensed riders in the UK at this point; I've been riding around on a Suzuki Intruder VL125 V-Twin for the past 4 years, and have found that I really, really like cruisers. However, I'm open to any bike bigger than a 125 at this stage, and I'm just wondering what suggestions people might have for good ones?

For anybody unaware of what the A2 classification is, it is any bike under 47bhp/35kW, cc's are irrelevant.

I've been looking at the Honda Shadow VT750 as a potential buy, but the sheer price of them is just staggering!

Passed my Mod 1 earlier this week with no faults, have my Mod 2 at the end of next month, and I'm taking an extra training day just to ensure that I'll not only pass, but also be safe on the road thereafter.

Any other advice or reviews on eligible bikes would be absolutely lovely. :-)

Not sure on cruisers at all, but in case you're not aware, you can restrict down a bigger bike, but the rules are that you can't restrict by more than half the original power, so any bike you buy to restrict will have to be a maximum of 94bhp. Think cruisers tend not to be overly powerful anyway, more favouring torque.

Not up on cruisers but if you want cheap then I doubt you'll get s decent one.

Have you thought about tourers? Or even a sports tourer?

I've been having a look at cruisers lately too and I agree with Dan. I've not seen a decent one for a low price, plenty on older ones about though and although they aren't brand new and showroom condition they seem to be solid bikes which will last well.

Buddy of mine used to ride a SV650 (selling it now) with a restrictor kit. Even with the restrictor it kept a fair bit of the torque and was able to keep up pretty well. You could probs pick one up for around £2k

The Harley Street 500 only gets about 35 hp at the rear wheel from what I've read MSRP is almost $7000 U.S. Though. I think the Honda Rebel 250 gets about 21 hp and is about $4000 MSRP. that's U.S. PRicing, though, not sure about UK.

Honda CB500X. Great bike for doing anything and everything you could ever want to do. Other than lie down flat on the tank and pretend you're a rocket.

My recommendation almost every time, except it's not what the OP is after.

One of my mates who recently got his A2 has a restricted SV650; seems like a very solid bike, but it's not my cup of tea in that case.

I've actually been looking a lot at FZ6 Fazer's and Suzuki GSX 650s. Anybody know anybody on this site who might have experience of either bike, with or without the restrictor?
