Oh heck, Are you ok? Thats the main thing... Bikes can be fixed. People can't. Did the person accept responsibility or did they try to blame it on you?
He didn't blame it on me the guy said here is my insurance details. He said sorry.
People often do say placating things at the time. When their insurance form is in front of them and they are thinking about the hit it could have on their premium, they start getting creative.
My story: I was heading to work and had decided to use the M25. Got off at junction 21A (for the A405 heading north). Lots of traffic on the slip road. Two lanes so I filtered slowly through. Turning left so pulled into a gap (3+ car lengths) in front of a van and behind a car (which was 2nd at the roundabout). The guy in the van was looking at papers on his passenger seat still a large gap behind me. I got to the front, there was a car on the roundabout, so I waited. At that moment, I heard the screech of brakes and the van hit me from behind. "Sorry, mate, the sun was in my eyes and I didn't see you."
On the insurance form, he said that he had started pulling out into the roundabout and I came tearing round him into his path! Basically lied out his arse.
Unfortunately no CCTV of the junction and the cars around had all gone by the time I picked myself up. Was badly shaken and the bike was written off.
Although this has been recorded as a "no blame" result, it has affected my premium because the outcome didn't result in the other party having blame (i.e. it is "joint blame").
This was the event that made me decide to get a helmet camera.
Moral: if you're involved in an accident, be polite with everyone, admit nothing and don't rely on anything they say to you (unless you've written it down and get them to sign it). Try to get witnesses if possible. People lie on their insurance forms!
