Sony As30v External Mic Help!

Hi All,

Got an issue, I cant get the mic I bought to work with my Sony Action Cam.

What have I done wrong here, the mic works as I've used it in my laptop
Do I need a Mono Mic instead of this?
Or do I need an adapter which goes into the HDMI Out port similar to the Go Pro?

Thats a mic meant for smartphones. The plug has 3 rings and the tip. So 4 contacts altogether. That's because a smartphone has Left audio, Right Audio, Microphone and Ground.

You need ordinary stereo or TRS (Tip, Ring, Sleeve) this has 2 rings and the tip. Left audio, Right audio and ground. Because the Sony cameras record in stereo. I know this because i split mine and use 2 microphones.

Cheers Andy, yeah i did some research and figured it out! Got a 2 ring mic now and it works great

there are various adapters (I have one from my audiotechnica 3350) to use mics with other options.
