So Today Was Pretty Fun

today my day consist of beating on a couple bikes on the dyno and building a quad hers a shot of the kfx450 I had was doing runs with after a port new piston and a valve job.

My buddy owns a machine shop and builds race bikes and quads. I work over there some times to make some extra money. Can't hate work when you just fuck around with fast bikes all day. Plus if I want any badass head work I just do it. Anything I would ever need is there.

I used to do that at a fab shop locally. I'd just show up and use scrap to make parts if I wanted. Learned to TIG and fabricate by just screwing around. It was a lot of fun. I miss it.

He has a tig welder just use it to get out old valve seats. I'm looking at buying one here soon to do all my intercooler pipping and exhaust on my s14. I have so much I could do with a tig.

Yeah, that's what I did. I built stainless rad pipes, turbo outlet and IC pipes for the Evo. Also a catback exhaust for the GTI. A modded several things like extending the test pips for the Evo to fit the JDM exhaust that didn't properly exit the US bumper.

I'm an artist by trade, so I really enjoyed that part of TIG. I've never really liked mig as it's much harder to be clean with it, even with argon. I've never done stick welding.

What evo do you have. I used to like sti till I met a good friend of mine with a evo9 with a 2.1 stroker making a little over 650 and I feel in love. I would love a evo but they are still a good amount of money. I have a 97 240sx with a 1jz vvti with a 350z trans. I'm putting a bigger turbo in there because my buddy gave me a deal on it. One of the reasons I need a tig so I can fab up everything where I want it. I've used a stick and mig and it never looks pretty lol. There's nothing like the dimes from a tig.

I've got a late '06 MR, so it's one of the final US IXs. It's got the "appearance package," or SE trim that the later models got ... the lip, diamond black BBS wheels, red stitched seats, etc.. I bought it new and it's got around 74k on it. It's mildly modified but on E85 with too much boost, so right around 400 whp. Stock turbo and cams still. It's mainly an autocross car so I don't have much use for much more power.

A 1J in a 240 would be fun. I've driven SRs, RBs and KA-Ts, but never a 1J one. I've not owned a Nissan, but have been lucky enough to drive several, including an R32 GTR, an R33 GTS-T and an R35 GTR along with many 240s and 300s.

My buddy was a 06 with the ssl package. His had the 5 speed tho which handles allot more but didn't handle his setup. I got pulled over driving it one time I got up to 130 and seen cop lights like a mile away and just pulled over and waited for some dumb reason and the cop came up and said do you know how fast you were going? At that point I thought I was going to jail. He said 55 in a 45 and let me go because he saw I was the designated driver. Love the car man. I know a good amount of people who had 400 on the 9 turbo with e85 and 30lbs. My buddy has a sr20 with a ve head bored and stroked to a 2.2 with a ridiculous turbo we should be putting the motor in when it's done at paint. It's supposed to make 1000hp on a rom tune. They make 1600 on the same engine with a stand alone. One in austraila makes 1800 and some change. He also has a r32 he imported not to long ago which is getting new floors and a tube front. Cars are my passion I just have my bike because I randomly got into it. I used to ride dirt bikes and loved it. I got the drz and it was just like the dirt bike I could hoon around everywhere. But on another not I love the car I can smell the burn of the e85 from that flame picture lol.

Yeah, I have no isses with the 6-speed. I've tuned them for years and have driven lots of 5-speeds and they just feel like a gear is missing. lol. 5th is so tall! And yup ... 29 psi on E85. And that flame pic was on pump I believe. It's a little harder to ignite E85 in my ghetto ricer flame method. But, after swapping to a hybrid DV it loads up with fuel on shifts and releases some crazy fireballs.

That's a nice kouki. My favorite 240 model. The Evo is rocking some blue wheels for daily use too.

That's crazy power from a 2.2l. That'll be interesting for sure!

I'm a car guy as well. Only recently got in to bikes. This is my other one ...

lmao I know the feeling. I'm excited for the 6th gear in my car. I'm very surprised you know what a Kouki is. The Nissan dealer didn't even know it was a Nissan when I pulled up to get parts one day. Look up mazworx s15. They ran a 6.8 I believe on the sr20 with a ve head. Love the bug that's just awesome. Does that have the bigger motor in it?

That's damn quick! I've got several friends with S14s, so zenki and kouki is something I hear a lot.

The Beetle has a pretty unique motor. It's still an ACVW, but fully built. It's a 2109cc, up from 1600. Forged all the things. lol. It's unique becasue I converted it to fuel injection with dual TBs and plenums. It's running the stock injectors from my Evo and gets air through two Ford V8 TBs ... which make it about useless. lol. I have basically no throttle modulation. It makes about 165 whp, but only weighs about 1740 lb. The point of the build was to get a really fat power band for rally and to make the best use of the 4-speed.

What I like about my car is it's a real Kouki. Most of them are just zenkis with a Kouki front. The fastest way to tell is if the antenna is electric and goes into the quarter panel when off.
That's so awesome. Thoes ford TBs are like 90mm right? That's a insane amount of air into that thing lmao. I remember seeing a couple of the bugs with bigger engines around a 2.0 or something with a turbo on them pulling wheelies down the track and beating a ton of people. I'm a big fan of forged internals. My drz has it all waiting in the box. I will be going forged in the 1j as soon as I break it but it takes allot of power to break them. I'm gonna go with a 2j bottom end and build it. I can put bigger valves and better seats at my buddy's shop. By then he should have his cnc to do porting and any machine work I need. Maybe I can just get him to build me a billet block lmao.

Yup ... 45mm each. lol. Way too much. I went that route because they are cheap and don't have integrated ISCV to deal with. I should have done some aftermarket ones at like 30mm or something. But hindsight is 20/20.

I was thinking of the ones that are single 90mm so you would have 180mm total lol. That thing is just begging for a turbo with thoes things. I bet your compression is just a little to high.

Wait, sorry ... you threw me off. They are 60mm. So 120mm total. Either way, enough air for 9l of car. lol.

I actually played it safe on compression. Only 9.5:1. Stock was 7.4:1 though.

That's huge still. That's like huge turbo style TB. That definitely compression for a turbo. You should just pull the trigger on a 88 lmao.

That was always an option ... =). Since the cylinders on the ACVW are external you can change compression easily. I have 0.050" of shims on each, so I can add more or remove some to change compression. My deck height is already pretty tight though so not much room to go higher without more head work. Lower is easier, but it'll hold boost at the 9.5 if I wanted. I'd probably drop it to around 8.75:1 or so for boost. I've got a lot in that engine and I kinda want it to last.

Well if you need headwork I know a guy lol. Up to 99 angles on the valves. I now laugh when people say they have a 5 angle valve job and think it's special.

The heads are built with larger valves and flycut and all already. I just went with a fairly conservative 55cc cut on them. They are CNC ported and such. I'll keep that in mind though. No head gaskets means that they come on and off pretty easily. What you've posted looks a lot better than most of the VW machine work.
