Quick and simple question. Do you guys plan and script your Vlogs or do you just play it by ear and then edit what you want to keep later?

I've been out with a bit of an idea of what I wanted to talk about before but never actually scripted or outlined a Vlog. I can see advantages and disadvantages to both approaches.

All thoughts are welcome.

People normally just know of a topic they want to talk about as well as some key points they want to mention to support their topic. Everything else is just fluff and personality really. Some people even know of where they want to film their video as well.

Yeah I find the most appealing vloggers put the most of their personality or persona into their vlogs. That's the structure I've used for most of my camera time, I found it was quite easy to go off topic sometimes. Can't really call them vlogs as they weren't uploaded.

The assistance you guys are giving and the interaction is the very reason I wish to be apart of this community. I like to be around good people and for the most part that's what I see in this community.

i have a general idea of where i want to go.... and a really vague idea of what generally i might say .... then .... i ride... get distracted by butterflies and such ... wander off to a different route... randomly remember bits of what i meant to say ... if i ride long enough i usually get enough footage and rambling to edit into some sketchy form of coherence! :D

I have occasionally written an outline of my talking points, but I don't usually refer to it while riding. The act of writing it down seems to cement it in the brain cavity.

On the other hand, If I'm going out for an all-day ramble, I might jot a few topics down and refer to it a rest stops to re-engage the brain.

will think about what the video will be about for a good 15 mins prior to actually talking in the video, sorta like a test in my head.

It's great to see the different methods people use. I'm going to give these a try and see what works for me. I greatly appreciate the input. Thank you.

I just strap it on and hope for the best. The trouble with that is that it is very inefficient, as most of these vlogs never see the light of day! The ones where i actively go out with a topic to talk about are usually the ones i go through with and edit

I guess I'd have to be on the complete opposite of the spectrum. I only ever put on the camera specifically to do a vlog with a specific subject. My girlfriend and I ride almost every day so it wouldn't really make sense to wear it constantly, we just pick a place once a week that we want to show the world. I can't imagine combing through any more footage than I already do lol

just don't expect to nail the video first time around. If i have a video i want to really make well, Eg Roll starting a bike. I actually film the video twice, as in i will film everything i want to do, stop and do it all again. This will insure that you can splice clips or segments from different videos. to make the entire video smoother overall.

Totally aggree here.

You have your Grand Idea, then at the end, your Battery/Mic/Card/Cam/Scenery/Weather/Girlfreind/Mother-In-Law, 'something' will inevitally screw-up, and you just have to make do with the best you have...So your 'Speilburg' Vlog may not end up what you thought originally.

But taking that into concideration, STAX of people here, produce awesome vids ona regular basis, so maybe its just me who gets the Gremlins/Poltergeist's when filming??

IMO/Experiences.

I should have done this yesterday. I lost around 30 minutes of video because of technical difficulties and user error and, as I was out for a long time, I'd thought I'd covered the topics I wanted to cover and as it happens I covered those during the failed recording.

Lesson learned and I shall be employing this method from now on.

Thank you for all the great pointers on this thread, really helpful stuff! For someone who's very much interested in taking the VLOGGING plunge, its great food for thought!

Vishnu
