School Me On Sena's

As much as I don't want a communicator it seems like a good idea these days.

Can someone school me on models/experiences? Batt life? Distances between riders?

If I just want to pair to my buddies what model do I need? Are there other brands that are compatible with the SENA or must you buy their product to connect with others?

Thanks for the help

I have the Sena SMH5FM. Mid range model, works well with other Senas and can pair with any other headset (Universal pairing mode). Range is about 700m on the open road but get into the twistys and you lose connection quickly as bluetooth uses line of sight mostly. For general day to day use I love mine. Can answer calls on the bike but I mainly listen to music. The speakers a REALLY loud and I can hear my music perfectly even with ear plugs in. There is a bit of distortion at maximum volume though (Which is to be expected). Voice quality is also very good and very clear.

Well worth the money in my opinion.

Had the Sena 5, loved it and could chat with others etc

I upgraded to the 20s and didn't see the point to be honest - it's great but full of gimmicky things, and bigger

Buy one they are awesome. Is that enough?

If you want a basic one that won't take up much space the smh10 is the one to go for.

I bought a SENA 20S because it can connect to any Bluetooth headset, which I have used and it's nice, the battery life I've had it last about 17 hours of constant use (12 hours one day & 5 the next with no charge) connected to mobile phone for music using Bluetooth, and the range between communicators I've had easy 1km (with line of sight) & a few hundred metres with buildings and stuff in the way. I felt that if I got a cheaper SENA and couldn't connect to other brands it would be a waste of my money, however it may be different for you.

P.S. The 20S is water resistant and lasts about 40 minutes in a storm before going haywire, however i only put it in my bag and let it dry for a new days and it's been good ever since!

SMH10 here. Use it to listen to music from the bike (BMW 1200RT with built in audio), directions from the sat nav and phone calls.

All of these with earplugs in, and as said above, it's plenty loud enough.

Not used it in anger for bike-to-bike comms yet, but will probably get the chance this weekend, when it'll possible be paired with another make of headset

Have you got two units or do you have a system for swapping them about?

Just the one Sena bluettoth unit, but a "clamp" on each helmet. The clamp contains the microphone, speakers and mounting point for the actual unit, which clicks on and off the clamp

Gotcha they didn't really illustrate that the boom was detachable...

My 20S came with three mic options ... the standard boom, a wired boom (short flexible lead on the end) and the wired mic. The one you use depends on your helmet or preference. I use the slim wired mic and it works great. I even bought another to hack up and use for a custom vlog mic to run to the GoPro.

I'm confused.

There's an SMH10, 10S and 10R, one load of literature says Bluetooth 4.1, others say BT 3.0.

Which is the one to go for?!

4.1 mainly changes the way that devices can interact with one another. On the Sena devices, I believe the main use is that you can sync more than one device to your headset. For instance, two cell phones, a cell and an iPod, a cell and a GPS unit, etc. Don't quote me on that though. I know my 20S syncs two devices, but others may as well.

I definetely recommend the 20s. I love the audio quality while listening to music and talking on the phone. I also love how many riders can sync up when doing a group ride.

Just bought an SMH-10, first use will be today :)

ope it does better than Amazon did at sending it. Ordered on expedited delivery Monday lunchtime, expecting it Tuesday at some point, and it arrived after lunch on Wednesday. Wasn't impressed. On the flipside, ordered two paddock stands from Demon Tweeks last week on a standard 3 day delivery, they arrived the next day, 20 hours after ordering!

I have been debating with myself over investing in a Bluetooth communicator but am stuck between two brands. The Sena vs Uclear. The main difference that pushes me towards the Uclear is the boomless mic. Any other opinions?
