Road King - Which One Would You Choose

For fun I have been looking through craigslist and facebook marketplace to see what might be out there. And I have come across some intersting, ridiculous, and gaudy custom paint jobs. It is one thing to get a fancy/weird paint job once the bike is yours, but it is a fun rabbit hole to fall in to see if it came from the factory that way.

Concord Purple. And I'm kind of intrigued.

And this one was a custom factory option listed with a limited run of 200, and this is number 152.

Anyone else fall down rabbit holes like this? Or just find them searching online sales sites for motorcycles just to look at them?

I fall down motorcycle rabbit holes all the time! My latest is drooling over the Indian Chief Vintage and some sportier bikes. Dang virus makes it hard to justify spending the money for now.

If I were to get a RK it would have to be 2009 or newer. The redesigned frame beats getting the Harley Hula . . .

They made the RK in Classic and traditional style back in 09.

What is the Harley Hula?

And all the new Indian models are kind of awesome. I keep looking at Scouts as well.

I don't care for purple bikes, and I don't like the 2nd one either, but if I had to choose between those two I'd get the purple one.

What years are both bikes? With Harley touring frames the year makes a huge difference, that might sway my choice!

The sorts of bikes I look at on Autotrader and ebay generally don't have custom paint, a lot will be resprayed though and often get racerep paint jobs, or more annoyingly try to pass themselves off as limited editions or SP models when they are blatantly not those bikes! :-)

Purple is a 2001 and the flame job is a 2002.

Oh my, if you have not had the Harley Hula then you have not lived, or are lucky to be alive because folks now call it a death wobble.

Check YouTube for the CHP Test Riders Experience the Harley-Wobble.

I have experienced it a few times on my '99 which had the same frame as all the touring bikes through 2008.

Oh the death wobble! Harley Hulu is a better name. Luckily I have never experienced that.

Concerning those early Road Kings, I am just so intrigued by those older carborated bikes and the way they look. And that purple one is just so different.

Oh, then I wouldn't want either of them. The redesigned touring frame came in 2009 and I would not go back to an HD frame before that.

The new softail frames actually ride better than their touring frames do, LOL!

Softails always have and will because the swingarm is bolted to the frame. The touring bikes have theirs bolted to the tranny which is bolted to the engine that is rubber mounted to the frame.

Why make a bike that is solid when wet spaghetti noodles can go anywhere?

Softails do have a weakness and that was adjusting the suspension withtout laying on the ground but H-D fixed that.

Never been a fan of cruisers. But between these two, the purple one, because I like the back rest for both seats and my fiancee would probably love to go for a cruise comfortably

I often spend hours going through Autotrader. Im not personally a fan of cruisers(but I do follow them), however I prefer the purple colour and bike.
