Replying To Comments On Yt

So here's a new one on me.

Got someone new who has commented on my videos. Seems a nice guy, appropriate comments, seems to like the vids, but for some reason I can't reply to this comments, there's no reply button, but there is for everyone else who has commented on that video.

Something I'm not aware of here?!

Your on google plus and they are not? You can post a message to them on their channel if this happens and ask them, had the same happen to one of my subscribers. He changed to google plus and verified his account and then all was good.

Ah, this will be desired requirement of Google to forward G+ then?

I am linked, but I never actually go to G+ unless it emails me to do so.

It won't be your fault Lurch, this happens if someone has disabled replies on their privacy settings or they have a legacy YouTube account that they haven't fully migrated to Google+.

I messaged them anyway, said what was happening and thanked them for the comments.

Also can't + tag them either.

There seem to few variations on this happening. As has been said, sometimes it's because they're not on Google Plus, although this is getting to be less likely as time goes on.
Also sometimes the comment appears in your notifications but not in the comments section of the "community" tab of your channel. In this case you can click on the persons comment and it will take you to the actual video comments section and there will be a reply option.
Sometimes this will not work as a comment will appear 20 minutes or so before (as if by magic) it will suddenly allow you to reply.
Then there are some that just mysteriously will not allow you to reply no matter what (even if they ARE on G+ and you ARE connected...).
Bottom line is that Google couldn't run the water out of a wellington boot if the instructions were written on the heel... best not to wreck one's mind looking for the logic!! o_O
