Rant - Posers Are So Annoying

What do I mean by poser? I am referring to the type of person that says (more like preaches one thing) and then behaves incongruent with their speech. So I am not referring to wannabes or noobs or RUBs.

Has anyone else heard of the concept of conflicting belief sets? Even if you have not, what is your worst motorcycle related experience and how did you resolve it?

I got two big knes. One involves me walking away from the situation on a cross country ride before I harmed a person seriously.

The other involves someone preaching about bikers look out for each other and are family but they failed to follow through when needed because they wanted to go play on some curves to impress a couple of folks. I am still dealing with the second one.

Just in case anyone asks, I expect folks to keep their word and walk what they talk. Otherwise, I just cannot count on them and have too little time to deal with it. But I may be wrong so...

I don't know if this falls under conflicting belief but it was a bad experience and I feel as though I should have known better because I know myself.

A few years ago I took a ride with a bunch of people who I did not know down to the Indian Larry Grease Monkey Block Party in Brookyn, NYC.

I have an aversion to riding in large groups, as my moniker on here and youtube is only a partial joke, and there are always one or two idiots who have to show off for some reason. But I thought that it would be a a good experience. In one respect to a broken down bike it was a good experience as we all stopped, about 40 bikes in total, and a few of the guys had the tools and knowledge to actually get the guy back on the road. But while we were riding the guys up front, the ones who actually organized the ride (a well known parts dealer online) kept taking off and were also pulling wheelies on the highway. I'm all for blowing off some steam and people who want to do wheelies on their own time, but some of the bikes on the ride were classics and under powered to actually keep up with sustaned 90's. A few of the guys got lost and when I saw them later at the event, they were pissed because they lost the pack. Luckily those guys were prepared and pulled the directions up for themselves, but they wanted that experience of rolling into the even as a group.

And the road surfaces on the highway in and around NYC is terrible and guys were pulling that crap where they just had to ride right next to you, rather than staggered so everyone could have an opportunity to avoid stuff like bumpers and what is typically considered a speed bump in a parking lot. I actually lost my battery cover on my sporty and suffered an un upper body injury hitting one of those highway speed bumps because a guy flew up next to me at the exact worst moment. Totally left the ground over that bump at 70 miles an hour.

I still buy stuff from the company that put on the ride, but I won't ever take that ride with them again.

That was three years ago, however, I have gone to Laconia Bike week since then and found myself joining up with a few different groups of riders thinking this will be interesting and I wonder where their going? But ten minutes in I find myself looking for the first turn I can to distance myself from them because someone does something that irks me.
