Peoples Faces The Law? (help Please)

What’s the Uk stand point on recording people on public roads.. I’ve been sent a message about the fact that on one of my videos you can identify someone's face that i am talking to about their bad driving (tried to run me over with an RV)


They said that if he is recognised and it effect their living they can sue me is there any truth to this should I be worried?

UK Law is roads etc are public places BUT if you showed someone leaving say an AA meeting that can be an invasion of privacy. Also images of kids is a very hot topic even if innocent.

Now YouTube will block/take down any video where someone raises a privacy complaint against it. They do have to prove it is them in the video and have to raise the complaint themself. IE someone can not do it for them.

If you use premiere cc to edit your videos it's now very easy to blur faces and number plates etc.

If you do this YouTube will not take the video down

Re-edit the video by blurring his face. Or it's usually easier to blur the whole screen or add a picture-in-picture which covers his face.

As above really. It's not illegal to take video or photographs in a public place unless it's for the purposes of terrorism. If you deliberately do it a la paparazzi, then invasion of privacy comes to play.

Leave the vid up, see if he finds the YT complaint button, then do something about it if YT intervene. If he did something illegal or dangerous, remind him you could always drop the clip in to the Police if he likes.

my next question is.....

a guy today undertook me and cut me up..... he then tail gated me and tried to take me out at the next junction so followed him home....... i have his face car and address all on video. do i post the whole thing or post a vlog with snippets and a voice over

well i followed the chap home waited about 4 cars back waited for him to pull on his drive and then stopped at the bottom of it and gave him a wave and a smile. it made me feel alot better when his smug face drop like a brick

Just show the bad driving bit. I haven't been cited for showing people's faces, and neither have most people who show people using their phones and possibly having a "chat" while alongside them. But you get any grief, take the full lot to the police, as long as you are not doing ANYTHING naughty at all

Here in the US if your out in the public you can record what ever you want.

Same rule in Australia, If you are in a public place they cannot do shit about it, Just ask the police I filmed the other day lol, he was filming me while I was filming him, all good and they dont care.

True but you have to be aware where you are publishing it... as they have their own privacy rules.

Yeah, police first, and YouTube second. Just don't post his actual home location. The last thing you want is a mob showing up there. As much as a dick the guy probably was, you don't want to facilitate that kind of retaliation.

I saw a video the other day - actually I couldn't watch it all, it made me want to punch the guy filming - where the vlogger wanted to see people's reactions by just walking up to them with his camera and filming them without saying anything. His point was that under US law, you have no privacy in public.

What the douchebag didn't understand was that sticking a camera right in someone's face who is just going about their normal daily life and not doing anything interesting is not only what they perceive as an extreme invasion of their privacy, it was a massive invasion of their personal space.

If he'd done that to me - and he was inches away from people and I can't believe how restrained some of them were - I'd have grabbed his camera and smashed the thing or taken the SD card and destroyed it. Filming your own travels where you have natural interactions with other people is one thing, but forcing reactions by being a complete tosser to others is something that will lead to huge pain eventually. And rightly.
