Dood! thanks everyone that was all really awesome advise and much appreciated. I like the idea of doing what you like because its what you like not for the views. A shift in priority's maybe in order. I'm a total dork and It probably reflects in my vids. My videos crack me up though, i hope they make others laugh as hard as i do. Is it wierd that i'm laughing the whole time im editing? .. :?

on a side note..
someone went though last night and thumbs down'd all of my videos, I had to laugh at that. Pissed someone off something fierce! :lol:

All publicity is good publicity. If you tick someone off, they'll remember you!

(Although making someone happy/enjoy the video is probably better! )

I wouldn't worry about getting hate. People don't like it, they will hate.
But unless they give you constructive advice, ignore them.

I got bashed one time (and Ariderslife came and backed me up) because I posted it on reddit under moto videos. Why? Just to hate. He told me to stop caring about the viewers then got in an argument with one of my viewers about how he makes money off videos. Just being an A$$.

If you're having fun, THAT is what is important. Experiment with new ideas, learn how to do cool editing tricks, try making better videos and soon people will start trickling in.
We're doing it to have fun, not to get popular. Otherwise we wouldn't be anonymous!

Also, another idea is to find another motovlogger and ride with him! Riding with a friend is better and vlogging with a friend doubly so!

also factor in that about 30% of subs watch the video you post.

I have over 30k subs, sometimes videos get over 15,000. the majority of times they get up to the 10k mark and thats all.

to get a video that gets 1,000 views i estimate youd need about 3500 subs ( on average views)

I'm on the 2.8k mark, and took me over a year to get there.
However, I measure my sucess mainly by the % of subs that view the videos regularly. After 2 weeks of posting, the vids usually have 1k views. That means I get a slightly over 33% sub retaining rate.

I took more 10 months to get to 1k, then 3 months to get to 2k, then another 3 months to get to 3k.

I received most of my subs by making a review of some very popular new bikes - at a time when there were NO bike reviews of this particular bike on youtube (or at least, worthwile ones - I'm looking at you, MCN) - then CB500F and CBR500R.
I saw an opportunity, gave it a shot, made sure I did some quality content and it payed off.

Those 3 vids got some 50k views each, made me a bundle of subs. I'm very glad that a good percentage of those stuck around to see my othe randomness.

So... upload quality content and people will stick around. If you crave a lot of subs just to get the ball moving, try to do something that people will be searching for. But if your other content doesnt live up to it, they will not be watching your vids. I'm happy with my 3k, as most seem to be actually be enjoying the content.
I found I really enjoy doing the bike reviews, and my subs also, so I'm doing those as often as possible.
I also found that some of my vlogs dont do well, others do, and am slowly getting to know my audience. Fortunatly,what THEY enjoy is what I enjoy, which makes the vids be more natural, take less effort and that shows in the final product. And take the effort to do proper quality editing.

Case in point: go check out orcaGTs' channel. A ton of subs, and 99% of the content is simply bloopers on the road. But his editing is so top notch the videos are awesome to watch. And so people watch them, enjoy them, sub him, and keep on watching.

Sub's just take time. But the more subs you have the more you get.

I run a game related channel ( evecopilot ) been running for a few years now, few thousand subs.

And for the first year and a half I only had a few hundred subs. But once you get a them. they start liking and commenting and the word of your channel starts to spread. And it almost becomes a self propagating cycle.

I for one just do my thing, Put my vids up and if people want to watch it great. Id do the same vids for 10 people then id do for 10,000 I enjoy it

I don't know why you even post on motovlog anyhows? If you were an actual vlogger, you wouldn't have as many subs as you do. Only way you've got them is like I said, posting other people's videos plus whoring out your channel to "close call" incidents where you are 9 times out of 10 in the wrong. That "hating"? Or stating the facts?

Also, before accusing me of thumbing down videos, you might want to get your facts straight. Anyways, shouldn't you be in bed, you're gonna wake your mother up. (also a fact)

Aother way is to have a well known and liked youtuber comment on your vids. that passes a bit of traffic on from thier subs. you may even keep a couple of them. But im sure nobody likes a beggar so getting established guys to comment is tricky if you dont already have a relationship. And trying to make friends is hard when these guys are getting a shit tonne of msgs daily.

I can acknowledge that, after Jack gardensnake posted a comment on a vid of my i almost instantly grow 50+ subs (2 days time).
But you need to make good qaulity vlogs or stand out

I'm glad you're enjoying the vids slothman. and ya, I think even if i continue to do poorly in the viewer relm i'll keep making vids, It's just way too much fun

yeah, the more subs you get, the higher the difference is in the ratio.
Only have 300 subs and vids only get around 120 views.

Remember that allot of people are watching and are subs to dozens, if not hunderds of vloggers.
They just don't have the time to watch every single one, every single day.

You are going about this the wrong way.

You should do this to enjoy yourself, not to get your 15 minutes of fame. Having goals for views? You're just going to be wasting your time, as you won't be happy. I've been doing the youtube thing for 18 months now, and I have no idea how many people are subscribed to me. What I do know is that I have a core group of around 15 people who watch my videos, and I watch theirs. We comment on each others videos. Having a core group of subs is worth 10 times as much as someone who watches the first few minutes just to give you a viewing number.

Agree 100%, thanks to youtube i meet different vloggers/riders in the Netherlands.
We comment on all the vid's and ride with each other from time to time.

But it only works when you are doing your one thing.
Thatway you will find people that like you and your vids.

Have to say after I deleted my account (don't go there) the most important thing to getting hits is a fairly large subscriber base of around 2k+

Why do I say this... I had like 2k subs, I would posts a video and get 1k - 8k hits on it depending. Your subscribers drive the initial hey ho to other youtubers and within 3-4 days the video unless its viral will then start to calm down to a few hits a day.

Now I have 100+ subscribers I can post a video, same 'quality' but only get 50-80 views, simply because I have very few subs. Its the nature of the beast, look at Jake, Spicy, M13 etc. No offence but their videos are just them ranting to camera but they have a following and it's like a snowball rolling down hill once your subs reach about 1k it starts to grow faster and faster (as long as your 'quality' remains).

It takes a bit of luck and or some thumbs up from someone big, or comment etc.
