Non GoPro Brand Skeleton Cases

So i am looking at getting a skeleton case. The camera shop just down the road had it for....wait for it...$89!!!! No thanks.
Google price search finds another brand one which is for the Hero3 which is $30. Then on Ebay there are ones from china for $18 which is probably double the cost it takes to make it. lol.

So the question to you guys is would you use a china knock off item for your $500 camera or would you go something in the middle or gopro brand only. Do any of you have these other ones??

Right I have been going to motovlog for a while and now I am going to be starting for this summer... The issue I am wanting to know is I have a GoPro Hero 3+ camera and I am looking into buying a Skeleton case for it I was going to buy an official gopro skeleton case and a sony mic that was recommended from gopro site. But my question is does any motovloggers on here use official or aftermarket skeleton cases ??? am I wasting money buying a gopro branded one... does the cheap ones do exactly as official or what I need advice I don't mind getting official but don't really want to throw money away that doesn't need to be any advice people !

Have a look at the XCSource frame mount.

I got one because I got fed up with removing the camera from the GoPro frame to get the memory card out.
With this case, it lets you access the card with the camera still in place.

I don't use it 'cos the Hero4 now feeds the battery in from below, so I still have to take it out to get to the battery (d'oh)

Hi thanks for the reply but as the camera is going to be used for motovlogging I have to consider rain or snow as I live in Scotland in the UK so rain is part of life here it comes and goes unpredictably so if I am vlogging I want to be able to continue with some sort of degree with water not much but some.... So I ended up buying the official skeleton case to see how that goes this is the stuff I just purchased I hope the mic is good enough for vlogging but time will tell...

I bought a cheap waterproof-ish case from DealExtreme, quality is good enough for my uses. But I made sure not to get a skeletal case as I can drill a hole for the mic cable instead for increased rain resistance over a pure skeletal. I also have a thin frame skeletal mount for sunny days. Also from china, works well so far.

@BabyAnimal remember to match the gear you buy with the GoPro you got, right now it looks a bit like you got a mic adapter for a Hero 3 and newer, but a case for the original Hero HD.

Ah shit just noticed that..... so wont fit my GoPro Hero 3+ camera I take it

What you think about the mic good enough or is there better out there for vlogging ?

Right I managed to cancel that order for the skeleton but I kept the mic adapter and mic.... See the problem is this is a £200+ camera I don't want to put it into a case that wont do its job I want one that will do exactly what its meant to and I purchased the wrong one because there is so dam much choice out there lol any ideas on a decent skeleton case people ?

I buy the imitation/China housings for skeleton. The original ones definitely are of better quality. If you are just mounting it on your helmet, imitation ones would be fine, however if you do fall/crash/impact the housing is easier to break than original. I lost a Hero2 due to re-using a previously fallen imitation housing. Snapped off at the neck, mounted to bike, not on helmet.

With all the BS and too much different makes out there I just swallowed the bullet and went to the official GoPro Site and ordered the official skeleton case :)

You'll get better quality.
If you have the money then it's all good.

All of them are made in China but it's materials and qc and qa that differs.

Just like yamaha and sinnis are made a few miles of each other... but the difference in bike quality is as if they were produced in different dimensions

I recently grabbed one of the skeleton cases off of eBay and it's actually really well made. It's got the opening for the mic and the flatter buttons like the 3+ cases. I like it better than my 3 case (with the excessive locking mechanism) and just a well as my 3+ case. No worries at all sticking a camera in there.
