Newb Youtube Questions - Please Help :)

Ramblin'

Ramblin'Rider on YT
Hey Everyone! New to the forum and to motovlogging - and as you will soon find out youtube also!

Of course my first post would show my newbness but I thought it might help others who might be as lost as me :)

I hope y'all will be kind enough to help! And I hope this continues to be a good place for youtube newbs to ask advice from more advanced vloggers :)

So here is where I am stuck... I have been riding for a couple years on my CRF250L dualsport and have made a handful of moto videos set to music attached to my personal youtube/google+ page -So I at least have the import footage, basic edit, upload process down ;)....

After I think of a good channel name, would it be best to get a new gmail/google+/youtube channel with that name? My personal channel only has 7 subscribers and 600 views currently. So I figured it would not be bad to start fresh and ask the few subscribers to subscribe to the new channel.

Also, when setting up a new channel is there anything I need to do to enable future monetization and all that other stuff which I assume comes only after building a decent following?

And if anyone has any other info they would like to share to help a newb learn about the process of creating a youtube channel, building a following and what you do after you get a decent following I would be greatly appreciative!

Looking forward discussing and learning lots more! :)

Matt

Hi Matt
I'm new too but these guys are all really friendly.
So wether I've done this right I don't know but you can set multiple channels up on a single email account which I have done.
I watched all this on YouTube vids so it was straight forward

Ride safe

Welcome!

If you want to reach out on all social media platforms then it would be wise to have accounts on all of them, or at least the ones you want to be on anyway.

Setting up your channel, if you want to start fresh or not, that's entirely up to you. As SlowRider mentioned, you can actually have more than one channel for an account, so again it's up to you how you want to do this.

As for monetization and other advance options, if I'm not mistaken, it will depend on your channel status (good standing), and growth, from there YouTube will start to offer you a custom URL, then later to verify your account, monetization / Adsense process, and so on. It's been quite a while now so some things might have changed, just check your account settings/options from time to time.

In fact, I think there's probably some decent tutorials and guide on YouTube on the process.

Things are quite different now SighBored.

I'd setup a new account without looking to monetise for a while (making a mistake and getting banned can have huge consequences) and ask questions as you come across issues.

Number one tip, just have fun and don't worry about monitisation unless you have +20k views a day ;)

Just enjoy doing it first and people will enjoy watching.
Thats the plan :) but I didnt wanna get to 20k and then find out I did something in my newbness to prevent turning on monetization and such lol I figured better ask first lol :)

I will def search for some tutorials also :) but if I set up my new channel on my personal google+/youtube/gmail are there any pros and cons to that? I mean why wouldn't you want it seperate if I hopefully plan to grow a following so I would have a facebook/twitter/instagram all with the motovlog name. Im such a newb the only difference I can see if organization pros and cons :) Thanks again all for the help!

so you recommend starting a new gmail/google plus and therefor a separate youtube channel from my personal name channel like I was thinking of doing just to keep then seperate... However, does youtube look at the volume for multiple channels? ie if I had my motovlog attached to personal email/google+ then added other channels that develop a following would that be any diff from.having a few seperate popular channels?
Granted these concerns are way in the future but I figured once u set up a channel name under an email that is it forever! And forever is scary haha :)

Yeah keep a separate gmail/youtube account so you have personal stuff and motovlog stuff separate. I do this for twitter etc too.

The only exception to this is facebook, where I have a channel page setup with my personal account as the administrator. This is because the faceboook staff are like nasty little Nazis and will close any accounts with "non-real" names.

In terms of monetisation, as long as you never add an AdSense or YouTube network to your account you will have no problems in the future.

As you may have guessed. I see a lot of noob vloggers, like yourself over the years.

It does seem to be the pattern of the big guys

Thanks! Yes! I will keep it separate - but i get what your saying about the facebook issue :)

Thanks again Swiss!

Now for the name! :) Before I think of anymore youtube questions what do you think of "Ramblin'Moto" :)

Obviously given my forum name this is what i was strongly considering lol but i keep flip flopping. I really tried to think of a name for me and not one that future potential followers would find catchy haha

I can imagine! and yes all the big guys seem so genuine all the time! I wanna go back and watch the first vids on their channels to see if they have always been like this or it gets easier in time..

I will try my hardest to put ambitions aside and just have fun! :) Of course like anyone I want followers to see my videos and at the least maybe pay for a tank of gas here or there with the ad $ eventually but you are right - the formula for successful channels seems to be forget that stuff and just ride, film and blabber on! :)

I can't wait! New Shoei Hornet X2 arrives today (lost weight and old shoei gt-air doesnt fit - up for sale) got the gopro mic adapter, mic and new adhesive mounts plus a scenic ride route planned! First ride will prob be a lot of audio trial and error but i am very excited to get started and get my helmet set up proper :)

That just made me think of another youtube questions! I am assuming that the few videos I already have are permanently linked to the personal channel they are currently on? IE when I start the new gmail/google+/youtube for my motovlog name I will be starting with 0 content on the page and i can't transfer the videos?

I know i could delete and reupload but they were only my "practice" videos for future vlogging attempts and I am more just curious :)

Y'all have been such a great help already - I am lovin this forum!

I didn't think Google ads etc allowed you/ liked you having more than one account?
That's why I set my YouTube as a second channel, so the whole lot is linked?

What could possibly go wrong!

Im a lil more confused now haha

So you think that you can only add monetization to one account? not that I plan on having more than one monetized channels in the future per se but still would like to get a grip on this whole situation...maybe i need to be searching for videos on youtube channels and monetization in general instead of motovlog specific searches on google :)

Yea, I made the mistake of making a new FB account for my channel and just ended up doing the page with my personal FB as the admin. It makes it really easy especially on mobile devices. On iOS it seems you can't have multiple accounts for FB so doing that makes it so that I don't have to split which acct I'm signed into on my iPad and iPhone.

You can have as many Google/YouTube accounts as you want.

It's 1 AdSense account per person, which is a very different thing and something the OP is not setting up yet.

To be honest I think it's getting a bit out of hand for someone who is just about to begin his path as a motovlogger.

I think your primary concern would be to come up with an interesting & catchy username/channel, setup the same for whichever social platforms you like to be on. After that, start working on your vlogs, video editing, getting good content and presentation.

Monetization, subs, views, stickers, name card, merchandise, etc. That will come later as your channel grows.

Thanks a ton Sigh! I was starting to feel overwhelmed but that helps narrow my focus :) :)

I keep coming back to Ramblin'Moto for a name - any tweaks or suggestions? I know it's gotta be my own but just curious before full commitment - i guess there is no commitment until there is content on the channel though lol ;)

Can you change the gmail account attached to a youtube channel after initial setup? my channel name was not taken but the gmail i set up for it was so I used a 1 after the name for the gmail. I figure if I ever get a number association through future racing endevors or who knows - I may want to open a new gmail with those numbers on the end ....shame that just the name was already taken for gmail :( But at least I got the youtube channel name :)

Well no one really sees your gmail account so it won't make any difference.
