Music and Monetization

Hello everybody!

I know this topic has been covered before and I did try searching for the answer to this question but didn't really get what I was looking for.

I'm new to the vlogging thing (as in I just published my first one today) and in my final edit I used copyrighted music as my account isn't monetized. My question is whether I will be able to monetize my account down the road for videos that don't have copyrighted music in them or if it looks at your account and all of your content as a whole. Depending how well I do with subs or if I really will enjoy this (which i think I will) I'd like to monetize at some point, however it would be a shame if I had to take down any videos that might contain copyrighted music.

Welcome to the forum Octomoto! To answer your question directly yes, you can monetize your account down the road and place the adverts in videos that don't have copywrited music. When you monetize your account all you do is open up the opportunity for you to add the adverts, it doesn't automatically add them for you. You actually get to pick and chose what types of ads are shown, when, and where.

Just a side suggestion however, I would suggest you look into using royalty-free or creative commons music in the future, especially if you plan on doing full music videos. Record agencies tend to frown upon someone using their copyrighted music without written permission and you could end up getting your video pulled. That's just a suggestion however, you can do as you wish in the end. I look forward to seeing some wicked videos from you!

Thanks for the quick reply! That's good to know! I only used the song in my first video as it pertained to the story I was telling and I just had to throw the song in there.

You should be good with that one. When you first mentioned it for some reason I was thinking full on music video. But yeah, as a general rule for myself at least I don't place any monetization on any full on music videos, and the music I use for those music videos I get permission to use before hand. It works for me at least.
