Motovlogs Vs Cinematics/heavy Edits..

Hello guys!

Alright, this general question just popped to my mind and figured, hell lets just ask the community.
I am a new Motovlogger (about 2 months now) and I've been doing a very decent job at producing content almost every 2 or 3 days. People generally seem very happy with what they see, I'm getting alot of positive feedback so far! But my mentality at the moment is more like "you do what you wanna do / what makes you happy" and if people follow, so be it.

Okay so my main "concern" came up since I made my first channel trailer, which was a beat matching video of most of my recordings to that day. It came out really nice and I enjoyed my time creating it ALOT.
Most "cinematic/beat matching" videos I've seen is from a guy named "MizShift" which I enjoy SO SO much!

Long story short, it feels like I wanna give this kind of content a go but I know it takes time, both for editing and recording. Especially if you're an 'amateur' editor, who would spent 15 hours into tutorials just to make a 3minute video!

What do you prefer ? Would you try and follow this path if you were me ? ;p

You do what you feel like doing, if you want all the effects and angles. Go4it! if you want to just jumpcut everything and slap on a title in both ends. Sure! You can also do a little bit of both. Its not a black and white situation. But rather a grayscale where you can sit as far up or down as you wish.

I personally do a little bit of editing like text on screen and context-related pictures to aid my vlogs. But beyond that I just stick the camera on the helmet and try to make use of an hour of riding.
At some point I might start doing more elaborate skits in the beginning of each video that require some creative production. Which might be somewhat cinematic.

You seem to quite like the idea of going in with a cinematic look, and I can't really recommend either. You do what you want, and it is quite reasonable to lower the rate of uploads in order to get more quality. The 15 hours of tutorials will shorten very quickly once you get more comfortable with video editing.

Golden answer right there, mate! Would love more like this.

I totally agree with what you're saying - a little bit of both should be the best if you're into heavy edits/cinematics. To be honest, I was always a "multimedia nerd" since my high school days - I've been kinda doing photoshop/sony vegas/premiere/after effects etc on an amateur level just for the fun of it.
I guess the idea of combining riding footage with all the above is what triggers my interest.. and oh the posibilities!

It all depends on your audience man. If you are going for that audience that likes the music and cuts, then that's your target. But you don't have to choose just one target. You can do features like that and still crank out other less intensive content to satiate other viewers.

At the root, do what you like. Then, utilize the analytics tools to see if what you like aligns with what others like. Then you can make a call on which direction you want to go with some actual data to back it up. that is, if you even care. If you're just doing it for you and for fun, who cares about analytics?

I kinda believe the audience part is bit complicated (maybe). In my mind - someone who likes to watch "simple" Motovlogs, would have no issue at all watching a cinematic/heavy edit video (but well made).
On the other side, those who mostly watch cinematics/heavy edits might find most Motovlogs boring.

I do understand your point about analytics. It might take a few videos per "category" to actually have an idea of what people are into - but definitely it can help.
For now, I believe I'll try and do both, throw some reviews/first rides and so on, see how it goes.

you already answered yourself.

The new cinematic stuff of Accidental broadcast is great and i love watching it.

But I also watch jumpcut vlogs, simple cut and past edits.

Personally i do notice that a more cinematic vlog keeps my attention longer and can get away with 10 + min.
The simple cut and past edit are skipped if they take longer then 10 mins. (that is why mine never last longer then 10 xD )

I love to be able to make more cinematic stuff myself, just don't have the skillz, the right tools or the time.

Only heavy edit one I watch is bike boobs. All the others seem to feel like commercials to me.

I generally keep adding effects etc by each video, but the more you go it'll turn out like what Lupin said.. it'll feel like a commercial

Dude.. go with the flow and what moves you. If you put the time into it, and it will be hard at the beginning, you will get the product you want. I myself have a lot of experience with audio production, soon I will be starting more video. Like you, I really like the quality and most of the content of Mizshift. As Savage said, let the metrics be your guide, you can do commentary vlogs and music videos too. No need to be stuck in one genre. Just my inexperienced 2 cents. Lol. Have fun doing what you want to do! It's that simple.. it will shine through in your work.

personally, I prefer the well edited products out there. 1 video per week is great if the editing is done well. I shoot 2 camera angles, but I need to start thinking about how to set up the shots when I'm doing a video at least to get a couple set up or scenery shots if I'm doing a ride.

If you like that style of heavy editing and don't mind crunching the hours to do the edits for a few minutes of video, go for it. Just bear in mind, what you do may or may not be liked by people viewing it, so don't have the expectation that just cause you crunched the hours to make the video, it will be a hit.

Make the video the way you like to view it, if you are pleased with the end result, that's the most important. Sure, people can comment and suggest, you can take those into consideration for future videos you do. Bottom line, watch your video, and if you enjoy it, you have a winner.

Again, this is similar to the question of what style of vlog you should do. My answer would be to do what you are happy with and NOT pander to what you think the audience want. If you like what you see, chances are so will others. From my own experience, your content will evolve over time; the trick is to watch the details, don't get lazy or complacent and don't treat the audience like children. Good luck and happy vlogging!

True.
And if you are working your arse off to make a project that others like you will loss the joy of doing it yourself.
Ending up slowly neglecting your channel and in the end even quit it because you just don't want to do it anymore.

lots of good answers... personally i like to mix it up and sometimes it will just be a straight five minutes of helmet cam but i'll try to make the narration very interesting.

other times i'll spend an entire day editing a four minute video that jumps around all over the place with different soundtracks, onboard and offboard narration, stills, text, you name it.

my audience seems very happy with the constant change of editing style but then it might be a case of the rest unsubscribed lol!

I like a bit of both. I like the motovloggers who will do motovlogs, an occasional music video, and some videos with more edits. Variety keeps people interested.

I have this same concern. I am very proud of my music videos, but they take so long to make and my normal vlogs actually seem pretty well received so I'm trying to get the balance right too.
