Right, so I just enabled my new video for monetization and Im just curious as to what your views are on it?

Do you monetize? Have you before? Would you?

Im in two minds about it! Personally i need every penny it will generate, but on the other side i dont want to seem greedy and that im only in it for the money!!

Opinions?

Unless you're getting thousands of views, you don't get all that much from it. I only put the video ads on one of my videos simply because it gets thousands of views a day consistently, the rest I don't bother with because it simply isn't worth troubling people to click off an ad for the gain I'd get.

You're talking less than a pound per thousand views ish, it varies a bit.

In summary, it needs lots of views (and views mean clicks on ads) to be worthwhile.

Dude just enable it... you can't get your first cheque until after £65 anyways. You're not greedy... you're claiming back some petrol money from an organisation that makes Billions... the viewers don't pay anything ;)

My 2 cents

Make good content and Youtube will reward you...

I gotta go with Clarky on on this.

While YES the adds can be annoying to the viewer in most cases they simply over look the damned things anyway.
You are not asking you subs for money.
And it costs you nothing to have it done, with a very small chance of any financial gain, however, when you do hit the bigtime and your video's start generating an income, it is awesome that you "could" actually get a little something back for doing something you like...

I'm a 3rd of the way to my first cheque..... If I keep at it that.. that cheque might even equate to a tank of fuel (based on the current increase in fuel prices)

Even if you get big and you manage to get say £300 a year... thats you're bike insurance sorted... wahey.... :)

Just out of interest, how much money do you make on that one video?

In the region of £10 a day, it has had a massive increase in daily views though recently for some reason. I'm saving it for a holiday next year, or if that doesn't happen then I'm paying my bike off with it.

Erk, I feel kind of undeserving now, I already have a decent paid job as well :/

I don't even vlog all that much!

To be honest that video is pretty funny, especially when you rev your engine and they look round like O.o ..."sh*t" haha

I think the small ads that can be clicked away immediately are fine, yet I dislike the full-sized video ones.

I use the overlay ads that you can close on most videos. I use the pre ads that you can close after 5 seconds on things I've put more work into. I usually only use the commercial length ads on my story time series or something that a lot of thought and time went into. Out of the several hundred thousand views since I started using ads I think I've only had about 3 or 4 people bitch about it and my subscribers told those 3 or 4 people to piss off each time and said they didn't mind the ads because they wanted to be supportive to channels they enjoy.

If you make content that people want to see most (other than a few trolls and douchtards) will be more than happy to sit through an ad to be supportive to your channel. I've even had some of my subscribers tell me that they click on all of my ads so I'll get a little something for my efforts.

That's pretty nice.
It's funny how it works, I'm getting about £5 a day from this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHhY8kCBqcQ

It's admittedly one of my crappy vids, but somehow it became most my viewed video.
I looked at the traffic sources in analytics and it seems it gets most of its views from SvenGalie's - London Riots video.

I guess it takes a bit of luck to get viral.

Yeah, as soon as it piggybacks off another video with a lot of hits and appears in the featured bar next to it, you're pretty much guaranteed several hundred thousand views.

If you don't mind me asking, how much do you get from monetisation on your channel Premises? Don't worry if you don't want to say, I'm just intrigued as your videos get a tonne of hits.

Recently I hit wun-eighty quid a month.
But I'm pretty sure I'm not making as much as say another blogger with the same monthly views as me.
I say this because if a blogger is talking about random subjects, then I'm pretty sure he'd get adverts relevant to what he is ranting about.
This means they are more likely to be clicked by the viewers.

Example
Video Title: Today I bought a new graphics card
Advert: Buy a new Nvidia GTX 660

My vids tend have a narrow field. There aren't many adverts relevant to road rage and idiot drivers.

I could be wrong.

Is that all? I'd have thought you'd be getting more than that. I guess that's a theory that would explain it, but still; odd.

According to what I see on my adsense acount, Premises is right on the money. I get most of my money from digging up a dollar worth of pennies in my front yard while using a metal detector. That vid has almost 85,000 views(it's my 3rd most popular) and earns double the money that my two most popular, plus all the other 150+ vids combined earn. The reason...it's pretty much always got metal detector adverts attached, and people watch that video and want to try metal detecting they can just click the ad and buy one for themselves.(kinda makes me wonder how many I've sold.lol)

My favorite comment and response from that video: "gratz, you dug and unsightly hole in your front yard and found 12 cents lol"

"It was actually about a dollar that I dug up, but since I have this video monetized with adsense that hole has netted me about $400 so far and it just keeps on paying off every time someone watches me dig it.. Dig it.?"

YouTube are going to put ads on your videos anyway. You may as well get some of the money from them.

The thing is, internet services cost money. Your equipment (camera, bike, etc) costs money. There needs to be a way to pay for it. Ads may seem evil at first, but things like YouTube wouldn't exist without them. If you put suitable tags on your videos, there should be reasonably relevant ads, so hopefully people won't be bothered by them too much. The full screen ones can be skipped after a few seconds anyway. (I personally prefer them to the banner ones as those can often end up over annotations.)
