Missing Friend Abroad?

Has anyone ever dealt with a missing person/friend abroad at all?

My mates gone Thailand to fight (mma) for three months. We've lost contact for a few days and I get an email from a new account to my business asking to help him find his bank details etc .

We've spoken to the police who don't seem to be that fussed but has anyone dealt with that?

Sounds odd.

Friend of mine had an email from a friend of his abroad asking for help as he'd lost his wallet and phone. He called the "lost phone" and his friend answered, so it was a hack scam.

Tread carefully with info. If he's doing MMA is there a venue or an organisation you can contact? Might be a genuine reason for loss of regular contact.

The email he sent from wasn't his main account, it's a brand new email from gmail which is weird

The email claims that his phone got damaged in a storm and he needs help getting into his icloud etc - I dont actually know the logins either

The email also said that he borrowed a phone but it's in Thai so can't use most of it, but can sign up to Google and verify etc

It's a scam. your friend's probably alright but someone's hacked his contact list.

ask him something you two will only know.
How many times he touched your bum or something..

As for the cops, they dont care, Sadly you wont be able to get help from them

What @Lurch said. Try to contact his hotel (or wherever he's staying), the fight venue, his gym or MMA club in the UK or other fighters he went out there with, or their families.

hahah classic beach smoothie syndrome.

it's pretty common for a traveler to use an internet cafe and they pc is riddled with viruses. the unknowing traveler logs into their email and the scammer has their details to set up a new account and steal their contacts.

there's always tell-tale signs n these emails. if it seems dodgy it probably is.

Mate - did he go to Koh Phanang? The police there will try to get you to get about $2000 from home to get out of jail until you go to court. They don't tell you this but normally 7 days and you don't get the money back.

I should mention this is for having weed.

I wouldn't trust anyone from another country...especially asking for random information.
