Now I am not saying this is a foolproof way to grow, but this is a quick grab of reach from a 20 second video I shared. It won't lead to every viewer subscribing to my channel, but if in just one hour I can reach nearly 1000 people with a targeted post, it WILL lead to growth on my channel. You may not like the social medias, but they like media. Get on the train and grow!
This snapshot is just from one social media platform, the same post has had reach on other platforms too, but my main focus currently is on my Facebook page for my channel
You can all get this, so very easily if you want it! You just need to put a little effort in. Come on, go out and win a little victory! You can do this!

So you've not done a paid promo, how've you targeted it? :) I'm aware I can go in to other pages and post my stuff but concerned of being accused of spamming pages.

Damn crazy! People definitely need to get into social media and I need to get more into it, I've been so lax.

How are things this morning?

I have joined relevant fb groups and shared on there. I don't just share my videos or clips though, I join in on other posts etc. Just like on here, you get out what you put in!

It is a great tool for helping grow a channel.
The video clip now has reached over 3600 people and will probably be over 5000 by the end of the day.

:) So in less than 24hrs this has been viewed well over 5000 times. It'd be aces if we could get these views so easily with our YouTube videos, but sadly it doesn't work like that. My Facebook page however has had a nice spurt of growth in followers and page likes. I had hoped to get it to 1000 followers by the end of the year, but I think that is optimistic, I may hit 900. Onwards and upwards!
I'd love to see you all have a go at this, those that use FB etc. Remember most FB groups have some basic rules, so try not to fall foul of them. Groups about your specific bike, or bike manufacturer are a good place to start. Don't be spammy, and try not to make the posts look too much like you are posting to gain subs/followers etc.
If you give this a go, stick up some screen grabs below to show how effective you are reaching folk. Am sure between us we can give each other pointers in improving!

Aye, folk seem adverse to watching a YouTube video, but will watch a short clip uploaded directly to FB. We can tap into that by making teaser videos from the full video and sharing the teaser on the various groups etc with a link to the full video, or inviting those who like the video to like your FB page, as that will lead them into watching your YouTube vids too! :)

Yes. I'd just come to that conclusion. Teaser Taster Snippets.
Another tool in the arsenal.

I'm sharing 5min previews of my motovlogs on Facebook now. Only started doing it about 2/3 months ago. I share on some military sites (Marines stationed in Japan), and some general "motorcycle video" groups, and it seems to work. It doesn't get me any new subscribers to my channel, but the 5min previews get way more views than my actual channel does. For example, my latest upload is about me buying a drone. On YT it has around 150 views. On FB it's closer to 600. But of those 600, I don't think many have gone to my actual channel and subbed.

Also yesterday I installed the Analytics app on my phone (much easier to understand than the web version). It's clear that;

a) 38% of my viewers are from the USA.
b) 30.6% of my channel traffic comes from Reddit, 12.9% from Facebook
c) my channel is found mostly by people searching for "ktm 790 duke" due to one crap video I did last year

This leads me to beleive...I need to appeal to US audience more. How?
I need to be more active on Reddit and Facebook.
I need to do more test ride videos

Test rides and how to videos get searched for, motovlogs don't. Sadly the main part I enjoy of the hobby is the bit people don't search for. Facebook is an easy place to market yourself, so a post of a link to a review of a bike on a targeted FB group or two should def help point folk towards your channel. Maybe your 5min previews are too long, a trailer on TV for a film or program will usually be around 30-60 seconds, you risk showing too much if it is too long and there would then be no incentive to actually watch the full video for the audience.

I hadn't considered that. You're probably right...I'll do a little experiment next video and make it 60 seconds or so, and include maybe the start, middle, end, or just clips from within the video that are interesting to kind of pull the person towards my channel...

How you going with this?

I'm wondering whether to start a FB or Instgram for my channel (eventually once I have content LOL )
I often record a video just for Facebook/Instagram and share it out, They often get lots of views and even some shares from folk. I do think it is important to have a presence on social media if channel growth is important to you. I spend a lot of time on social media, and possibly 75% of that time is not promoting anything of my own, just liking and commenting on people's photos etc. I only do so on content I genuinely enjoyed or liked so as to not be fake. It is a lot of work, but for strangers to take an interest in your content on YouTube, you have to give them a reason to do so.
YouTube dos promote the smaller channels, but there are so many, that you really can't rely on YT do do the donkey work for you.
I'd suggest to anyone wanting to grow a channel to get onboard with social media. You can run a facebook page anonymously even with your personal FB profile, and you can now follow pages and groups as your page rather than your profile. I would suggest getting a few videos up on your channel before creating a FB page for it, otherwise there is no incentive for those interacting with you to subscribe etc.
