Had it since 2009 although in storage for 3 years (crashed in a diferent one) I usually change every 2 years because the sweat deteriorates the inners (not just mine lol) it's not toxic
It seams that helmets wear faster from sweat and facial hair abrasion on the inner liner than anything else.
Is it easy to find replacement liner for a helmet? I never looked into it.
They do , the sweat deteriorates the inside polystyrene makes it more brittle that's why manufacturers recommend changing every 2/3 years ..some say longer but I dont ..(used to work in the motorcycle industry and did arai and shoei training ) plus if you drop your lid ..replace it they are only designed for 1 impact ..lid falling off my bike seat have cost me a bit in the past :-(
If you aren't planning on keeping it, as a suggestion, donate it to the local fire department/paramedics. Because of the cost they rarely get to train on how to remove helmets properly and such. Helps them help us.
I once poked a hoe in one of my helmets with my trunk lid on my last vacation. Boy, that made my day coming home (that and the radio didn't work all 1,000-some miles because I accidentally snapped a lead off of a speaker while cramming the trunk full ~_~ ).....
