So i heard back from the insurance and they gave me the settlement price, it says on the letter that its subject to my documentation.. which i dont understand.. someone phoned me on the 9th of July and he asked where i kept my bike because on my policy it said parked drive but it was on the street the night it got stole...

is this going to bring my premium down a hole lot?? the insurance guy said he wasn't sure and im to wait on an email from someone...

Realistically, I don't see that leaving it on the street makes a whole lot of difference. People can look down driveways just as easily.

Insurance companies see things a little different though. According to my policy, situations such as these may lead to refusal of my claim, or doubling of excess. I anticipate, if anything, it will be the latter.

Let us know what happens :)

I'd be more worried if you kept it in a garage but left it on the street outside your house the night it got stolen. They may try to offer you a little less money, but hopefully not.

Do you have a driveway?

When they ask 'where do you keep your bike' and you answered on the driveway?

Off road parking is far less of a risk compared to being on the street

You're lucky that they're paying out at all to be honest fella. My bikes are not insuranced if i park outside my house, they have to be in a locked, brick built garage if im within 15 feet of my house

Similar here. Have to be in the garage if within 0.5 miles. Only at night time though... Can park outside if I want to in the day.

I could be the same to be honest but I have a garage so I might as well use it.

The thing is, you can't tell your insurer that you park it somewhere if you don't, they run a business not a charity. They charge you based on the risk.

(used to sell and deal with claims on insurance)

Indeed, although speaking to the car insurers, they take the garage thing with a pinch of salt as nobody actually keeps their car in there. Drive and road is minimal unless you have lockable gates as it's easily lifted either way, so you may be OK, but it's not what you told them. I believe they do allow for you putting your bike where ever for a temporary period, as in you've nipped home for some lunch etc..

The key might be is that they ask where you NORMALLY keep the bike. If you've not got it in the normal place while at your home, you might need a good reason as to why it wasn't. My in-laws had a reason not to driveway their cars for a week - the gas company dug up the pavements in from of each driveway to so some work on the gas main, pretty certain if you couldn't park normally then they would have to allow you that as you would have done had you been able to.
