Instagram: I've never used it before, but I kind of like it?

Moto Mengy

Motovlogger from PA, USA
So until last week I'd never used Instagram. I've never visited it, I knew next to nothing about it, but I've learned that as a social hub for motorcycles and motovlogging it's actually pretty nice! In fact I think I like it much more than Facebook.

I'm still learning it though, until yesterday I didn't know about hashtags at all. And I only have like 5 followers so far, I need to learn how this works so I can gain followers I guess? I do have it connected to my Youtube channel now, that should help I suppose.

I love taking pictures of my bike in scenic places and Instagram seems like it was MADE for that. Sweet.

Anyone else use Instagram a lot? I've found a few of you on it already. Any tips for an Instagram newbie motovlogger? ;)

Welcome to the #instalife :p . I'm a daily user, my feed is just bikes except sometimes the overlords change the algo and then I get dress ads?

First tip you can follow a hashtag, search for the tag, open it and at the top is a follow button.

Just try post regularly, just like other social media. Oh and I find people like honesty and having small chats in the comments.

I started late last year, after always saying i wouldn't xD
But multiple other vloggers showed how well it is to use as a easy way to find new audiences.
Share pictures of rides you did, grouprides, testrides, solorides and what not more.
And once in a while share a photo from a vlog, or some even do the thumbnail.

Stories part is still a bit tricky i notice, but i'm having fun.
So it might not be as a powerful tool as it can be, just enjoying the bike pics xD

Yeah, I think I might put my motovlog thumbnails onto it too, seems like that could be a useful tactic. Although I might try to post scenic pics from my motovlog rides instead of the youtube thumbnail itself. Maybe both, lol.

In case anyone wants to follow me I'd follow you back, I've found looking at other peoples pages very useful in figuring out how to do stuff, how it all works, and what is possible with instagram.

Instagram is great, not got a large following on there, I imagine most are from my YouTube channel, but is good to have the main social media platforms available to you if you want to grow your YouTube channels.

Please if you want to add your instagram accounts on here, can you do it in the correct section:

Im definitely more interested in seeing other posts, than posting. Good way to keep up to date with some shops as well (we have a bike shop that exclusively runs specials on their instagram)

I don't do it always. Don't want to spam my own insta xD
Some do it every vlog. Some never.
I tend to do it with vlogs that deserve a bit attention, of thumbnails that are worth sharing.

But often a share a moment from the vlog itself instead of the thumbnail ;)

So I just found out Instagram accounts can be converted into "business accounts"? From a motovlogging point of view, should we be doing this or not? It sounds like it could be useful.

A Instagram business profile gives you features like Instagram Insights, contact information, Instagram Ads and more. The only thing I've used is Insights (which shows you simple analytics for your post)
You can also convert your account back to a personal account.

Yeah instagram is great! It's definitely good for posting events, rides, plugging your channel, or just for posting
a e s t h e t i c bike pictures. :D

Apparently tiktok is also just as useful if growth is what you're after; its essentially instagram but for videos that you add music too. Youraveragebikerboi on youtube got a following super quick with tiktok

I don't think I'm hip enough for something like instagram lol

I like the simplicity of forums, Facebook and Youtube :)

Instagram is quite simple too, easy to view and scroll through as it's just pictures with captions, easy to find people to follow with similar interests, easy to view those who you do follow 'stories' like facebook stories I suppose.
Hipness level = no minimum required ;)!

Yeah I have to say I'm enjoying Instagram. It's been a useful tool to bring new people to my channel, far more effective than Facebook has been so far. I've always loved photography though so it is a natural fit for me.

I also thought it was too "new kids" for me, but really its not hipster at all. Its really just following people and their pictures, IE: Follow biker people for bikes, hipster for hip things ;)

The interesting thing with Instagram for me is that certain companies will actively follow you.
That isn't something i have experienced on facebook or twitter.

Insta feels more chill and laidback in that way, which is great :)

They do so in the hope you follow them back though, if they are a company I use then I don't mind doing so, but then it is a bit irrelevant, as I'd buy from them anyway lol

There is definitely some sub-4-sub stuff on instagram, thats everywhere. But the community in general are a little nicer, I've even had conversations with a handful of people on comments.
