How far is too far to travel for a meet up?

I'm considering a trip down to a vlogger meet up in a week or so, weather dependent of course, the thing is, it's quite a way to go for a day, and it'd be an early start. The meet up is about 230 miles away, work commitments mean I can't travel the night before, and it starts at 9am.... Oh, and I'd have to be back the same day.

I know you can't decide if I should go or not, so maybe this is a 'how long is a piece of string?' type question, but what would you consider too far to travel for a meet-up? Is such a long day worth the effort?

The answer for me would be based on:

How close of friends are you to the people that are going to be there? Good friends make it more worthwhile vs. just folks who ride and motovlog.

Will there be anything such as workshops on techiniques and such? Learning something in a class or group is more worthwhile than just hanging around doing rides.

What kind of mindset would you be when you get there and back? Being fatigued when you get there and then being more fatigued when you get back is a big consideration. Here 230 miles at 80 mph is just about three hours in the saddle. Then you show up and it is a circle jerk with a bunch of riders stroking egos might not be a good investment unless that is what you want.

However riding three hours to see good friends and/or attend a workshop might be worth considering.

But that is just me.

I travelled over 200 miles to Saddlebags' meetup, so a 400+ mile round trip, 300+ miles to meet another motovlogger to go trail riding so over 600 miles... but I arranged to stay a couple of nights in each place to make it more enjoyable. I was supposed to be going to Wales this weekend to meet another, which would have only been a single night stop over, so a long day riding on day 2.

I guess you need to look at how many miles you can cover safely to see if it is possible in a single day or not... I prefer to take my time rather than cram it all in a day, a B&B adds cost, but means miles are easier to manage.

Is this to the EOS organised by Mr Fish?
Yeah, that's what I was thinking of, I really don't have the option of stretching it over a few days because of work commitments, otherwise I could make a real trip of it, that would be worthwhile for sure.

There's no workshops there, that doesn''t really seem to happen here in the UK very much. The rest is very much factors I am unsure on. Okay, I can say that I doubt I will know many people there, the counter argument is that if I don't go I may never know them.

Fatigue is a very real potential issue. I have ridden longer days, but usually just to get somewhere and not a round trip.

If you can't go there the night before, can you stay there the night after and thus split riding over 2 days?
Will the meet consist also some riding activities, will you want to spend more time in the saddle, after blasting so long on motorways?
Could you ride half the distance the night before and spend the night somewhere closer?

There may be some riding, as the meet is split over two sites, depending on how the journey goes. The saddle-sore feeling will likely come in on the way home, I have quite a padded backside.:D:D

Late-ish finish on the Saturday before and mid-morning start on the Monday after, so it might be possible for a night out, but not necessarily ideal or worth it.

I've done the BOS and/ or the EOS for a few years now, 460ish miles round trip.
It's do-able in a day, but motorway.
I usually stop at Churwell Valley services for fuel and a coffee break, each way.
Allow 4 hours each way.

Depending on who they are.
A fan/follower? Probably about 30-50 miles
Someone completely new to MotoVlogging? 100 miles
Most Motovloggers - 200 Miles possibly
My favourite Motovlogger? About 5 miles hehe :3

Renna and me once travelled 1562 miles plus ferry on a weekend for our own meet up with the third in the pack (you know who) at Loomies.

Finished work friday afternoon in Munich, rode 210 miles of motorway on the bikes, swapped to car, drove 440 miles to Calais. Arrived at about 4 o'clock in the morning, slept about two hours... Got the ferry in the morning. Drove 130 miles to Loomies to make it to the meetup at 12 o'clock.

Left at 6 o'clock on the same day in the afternoon, drove 130 miles back to Dover. Slept at a BnB, took an early ferry. Drove 440 miles back to our bikes and then rode another 210 miles back home.

Absolute fucking insanity.

And then the next time we were in the UK and wanted to meet up at "the hill", guess who couldn't ride 10 miles because it was windy and rainy? You know who...

I may have signed Renna's sausage.....:oops::D

Thinking about it, how did I not remember that. I must have gone down from Manchester that day too, on a CBR125R. Maybe I was more care-free in those days.

That is absolute insanity - good on you, don’t think I’d be able to do that ✌️

A little late, but it all depends on how much time I have. I love to ride, so I'm game for nearly anything. 460 mile round trip is about my average day ride. so I wouldn't even think twice about it. Wake up early in the AM, and hit the roads for my favorite part of the day, sunrise! I've done some IB rides to get to locations before, just because.

Yeah, I'm one of those weird guys who likes endurance riding. We're an odd group, but mostly tolerable. :)

Just nice to be on the bike, right? I’ve gone hours just for a small thing I can get locally before :D

Amen to that! Took a big talker with us for a lunch run once. 550 miles just to get a good bit of BBQ. There and back same day. Why? Because it was a gorgeous day to be on the bikes!
