Ok, so im hopefully getting a mates kawasaki gpz500s (1994), but his clutch is so heavy in my opinion, i remember sitting on a er6f, and you could pull the clutch lever in with your pinky finger! How can i lighten up the clutch? do i need a new lever/cable? or is it more simple?
Any help is much appreciated!

Is that one cable or hydraulic? Can't remember.

If it's cable, replace the cable. Kawasaki is notorious for the cables getting gummed up. I had the same problem with my z1000, and that simple repair made all the difference.

I've got a '98 one - is yours the first or later shape?

If they kept the same clutch (and I'm pretty sure they did) then mine is fine. The cable needs adjusting every so often, but feel-wise it's never been something I've noticed.

I'd guess you may have some rust on the cable or the cable puller at the clutch end, so just lube the crap out of everything clutch related (don't forget the lever itself) and see if that improves it.

At worst, a new cable is pretty easy to fit and should cost under £15 from somewhere like www.wemoto.com ;)

my brakes on my 99 ninja were stiff in the front. A shot of ZEP 45 lube in the lever and now its smooth as silk... does not take a lot to bind up a lever.

Take your clutch cable off and tape a funnel to the end and pour some light oil in there (it might take 10 minutes before it starts dripping out the bottom). If this makes the clutch light then the cable was gummed up. It will probably gum up again, but its cheaper than a new cable.
