I already know the debate about projectors and reflectors, ect. This question is more about the kits. Why are the "motorcycle" kits so much more expensive than the "car" kits? Aren't they essentially the same darn thing?

I didn't know that the H7 HID kit for a car was different than and H7 HID kit. AFAIK you can go down to any autoshop and purchase the same size bulb and pop it in and it'll work just fine. This is regarding the DDM HID kits. I purchased a kit for my car a few years ago which was $35+tax for two balasts and two bulbs. So how come the same kit for a motorcycle costs $150+tax? O_o

I've no idea whether they're the same thing, but I can understand the price differences even if they are. It's like buying memory cards here - if you buy them from a phone shop they are much cheaper than buying them from a camera shop for exactly the same thing. Apparently that's because people with phones are a bigger market and generally spend less on their devices than those with cameras. It's a screwed up way of thinking. Perhaps it's because the car market is more competitive and less specialised than the motorcycle market.

Worth checking out whether they are indeed the same thing though.

I have HID's on my bike ATM and hate them. I mean they are great but being aftermarket, they are a pain to fix if they break. From what I can see on my bike they may be more expensive because you have to get resistors so the battery can deal with the increase of power to the headlight. That and they also come with motors to control the projectors. They give a great amount of light with no soft spots but one of the projectors came off when a wire snapped. I only have one working now :(
