Really only applies to people who have had experience painting their's but any input would be appreciated! :)
So over the past two years the weather and me haven't been too friendly to my YBR's exhaust, and now iv'e got my mod 2 coming up in a few weeks, I'm thinking about selling her (if i pass that is) and well the exhaust isn't in the greatest of shapes.

So what I was thinking is take the exhaust off hang it somewhere sand it right down to the metal then get some VHT paint on it (very high temp) satin, matte or flat?

Anything else which you guys can think of before I go ahead and do it would be great as I don't want to cock it up :)

cheers

i have sprayed about 5 different 2 stroke exhausts would work the same with a 4 stroke basically i take the pipe off use a wire attachment in my power drill and sand all the rust patches off then resprey with plasti-koat high temp BBQ paint its kinda gloss i think it looks nice =]

I tried painting the exhaust one my moped a while back, I used VHT paint but it all came off after a week...

I've used BBQ grill paint on the headers on my old 91 Katana... Riding in rain and winter it only lasted about 5-6 months before I had to redo it, but it was only about 5% worn off at that point. I was just being a perfectionist. I'd say you could easily do it once every year or two and it would continue to look great.

Why paint it? Take a little extra time and do it right. You can buy powder coating kits for use at home. You just spray whatever you want to coat and stick it in the oven for a while. The kits come with directions and all that. It will last a LOT longer than BBQ pit paint, and it will look better overall as well.

Baking a powder coated object in an oven leaves lethal chemicals in the oven. Maybe not enough to harm you with the first use, but after several uses it's definitely bad. For that reason most people avoid the home PC guns because it's too much of a hassle to get a dedicated oven for it. I intend to do it in a few years when I can have a big garage, but for now most of us just stick to paint.

Heh, finding an oven on craigslist for a few bucks can't be all that hard... First I've ever heard of the chemicals though, bummer.
