Headset issues

Hi!

I'm still trying to get my vlogging set-up sorted. I so far have:
- Veho MuVi camera - no issues on that
- Scala Rider G4*
- Android phone* (Samsung Galaxy Ace)

The two * devices are paired using bluetooth.

Ideally, I'd like to leverage the already built-in mic from the Scala rider to avoid having to buy a dictaphone. My issue is that no matter what piece of software I get for my phone, the bluetooth headset is never used.
Has anyone had a similar set-up before? If so, how did you record your voice?

Interesting idea, I like puzzles and have the same sorta equipment (I don't use it for vlogging tho). Can you tell me what phone you have and what apps you have tried?

Update:
Just tried this and it worked fine.

Equipment
Phone Sony Xperia Ray - Android 2.3.4
Scala Rider FM
Voice2Do (voice recorder app) http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/productivity/voice2do-recorder_kpqo_download.html

Method
Install Voice2Do
Pair Phone with Headset
Start app
Hit red button to record (should say automatically paired to blue tooth)

Yadda away...

NOT TRIED with GPS enabled etc or on the bike etc etc. Just a quick test.

Hope it helps.

Was having this issue myself the other day. With some help from a few people on Twitter, someone (think it was Leedsrider) found "Bluetooth recorder".

It's an app that does exactly what it says on the tin.

The file type it comes out as won't render in any sort of decent quality on an editing program, so if you use it you'll have to convert it or re record it first.

I decided it wasnt worth it, so continued using my dictaphone.

I currently have a Samsung Galaxy Ace (GT-S5830) running android 2.3.5 (Vodafone build). Scala G4 patched to latest firmware.

Upon turning on bluetooth on the phone, I hear a voice going "GPS connected" - not sure if it is meant to say otherwise. The phone then gives me a nice little "Connected to phone and media audio" message to confirm that pairing was successful, and the Scala starts flashing blue (as expected).

From there, turning on Voice2Do indeed tries to record using bluetooth, but somehow still uses the default phone mic. Same for Bluetooth recorder, even with the bluetooth box checked.

It sounds like you've paired your Scala on the GPS channel rather than the phone channel.

You'll need to remove the Scala on your phone and then follow the instructions for adding a new phone. It's supposed to say "Mobile Phone Connected" (in a very American voice, pronouncing mobile as oddly and humorously as possible).

If you do that it should start working properly :)

I've currently got the handbook in front of my eyes and I can't actually see a difference in pairing a phone and pairing a satnav.
Phone
- Turn both on
- Press mobile button for 6 seconds until it starts flashing red/blue
- Link and pair to Scala rider G4
- Passkey - never got that on the phone
- Bingo
Satnav
- Turn both on
- Press mobile button for 6 seconds until it starts flashing red/blue
- Link and pair to Scala rider G4
- Passkey (optional)
- Bingo

Am I doing something horribly wrong?

No... I thought there were different ways of linking it, but I guess not.

It must be assuming your phone is a Satnav... for some reason.

I'd just keep trying it till it recognised it as a phone, or have a quick Google to see if anyone had a similar problem.

Got it as a Mobile Phone (american accent FTW). The issue is that the phone is a one-time pairing, whereas sat navs can be put on/off.

I am now faced with the issue that both Bluetooth recorder and Voice2Do crash while the phone is paired with the headset. Getting there...

At least you're a big step forward :D

Try taking the battery out, leaving it for 30 seconds then putting it in again.

I know it sounds chilché but I used to work in a phone shop for a year and a half and there was hardly ever a problem this didn't fix.
