Guide GoPro Hero 9 - Firmware Version 1.60 Upgrade

In what is a super-fast turnaround time, I got a video up highlighting GoPro's Hero 9 firmware upgrade... 1.60 reportedly increases the responsiveness of the rear-facing touch screen on the Hero 9.

Spoiler Alert: it WORKS! At first touch, literally minutes after testing the touch screen in v1.52, it is much less laggy, and needs less of a press to activate on-screen buttons. I can't vouch for the other things listed in the upgrade yet, but at first glance it looks like GoPro finally figured it out. This ought to make using it in colder weather much easier.

Awesome. Hopefully another firmware update is coming for the GoPro Max too.

Oh, that'd be great! Maybe they can fix my problem with my Max where it keeps falling down and cracking the lens protectors???

Honestly, I don't know what else they could add but maybe some better stitching.

I will be doing this when I get home tonight. My fat fingers never work on the touch screen and I'm sitting there flicking it with every part of my fingers, hand, nose, whatever trying to get it to the setting or screen that I want.

I am also hoping that they buried an update for the 3.5 mm mic in there somewhere and I have issues where it won't recognize it being plugged in sometimes and then I get no audio.

When you say no audio... are you getting no audio at all, or the in-camera audio only? I ask because I've had an issue several times while using the Media Mod on my Hero 9 where I thought I had the mic plugged all the way in, but unless I rotated the plug in the mic port, I got in-camera audio instead of the ext. mic's audio.

There was also an issue on the Hero 8 with the Media Mod wherein if the Media Mod wasn't SECURELY [and I mean a lot of force] connected to the camera, I wouldn't get any audio. I can't recall a time where the Hero 9 did this.

I have an issue where it will switch to standard mic, but won't record any audio at all. But, if I unplug and plug the mic adapter in at the USBc port, it will start working. My wrok around is to always use voice commands to start recording and if it starts, then I know the mic is being fully picked up. It is a hassle sometimes as I don't remember to use voice commands and just tap the top buttom to start recording.

Hey, that's a GREAT workaround!

I turned off voice commands because it would frequently pick up me talking about recording or something similar, and BOOP - it's no longer recording. It was a PITA, so I make sure it's turned off on all my GoPros.

Better stitching would be nice. But, I was hoping they would increase to 60 FPS for 5K mode.

Oh man, that'd be something else! I wonder if it's an SD card speed issue though - I thought I read somewhere that the 360 cameras don't have higher resolution and framerate because the bitrate is too high for most, if not all, SD cards to write properly.
