Good news for motorcycle fencers

Fencers, if you've ever considered carrying swords to your fencing club on a bike... it's actually legal!

I had to do it this week-end due to starting back on rapier classes and case of swords duel-fighting. So, I had to bring my two swords from home (Oxford) to Bristol. Went to the Swindon police office and asked nicely - the police might stop you to check, but it is not illegal as it is not a weapon as such (don't ask).

The "safe" position to do it is to cross the sword(s) over your back, like this:

This way, even if you fall off, you will not get skewered by your own weaponry.

thats what I was thinking. Riding a bike with the word "ninja" on the fairings too... Can it get any better?

The reason I carried the swords is due to me re-starting "serious" fencing, by the way. No, I do not go around wearing two swords strapped on my back unless I really need them. BUT, there have been a few good points:
- The priceless looks from people in the passenger seat of cars who overtook me. One guy was dozed off, saw me and opened his eyes going like "OMG!"
- Did not get tailgated. Period. Not a single time.

So it has some good points

I cannot vlog just yet. I haven't got the mic sorted just yet (need to find a bluetooth headset that can be muffled to reduce wind noise, as I have the nasty habit of riding with the lid open). But it's a plan....

...Also, first, I'm going to mod my backpack to accomodate the swords. What I'm thinking at the moment is to have some of that oval tubing that they sell in homebase, cut two lengths of it, sew it into the back of the pack crossing over (like they currently do on the photo). When that's done, get slightly smaller oval tubing and slot it into the bigger ones, with some kind of mechanism (i.e. screws/bolts) to retain them up. Voila, instant backpack-that-can-suddenly-turn-into-a-sword-holder solution.

No-one will ever mess with you if your riding pisses them off if you always ride with them on your back.
Get the rest of the guys you fence with on bikes and get a little club/gang of you riding around your streets.
