Go Pro External Mic Options

I just ordered the Vidpro XM-L Wired Lavalier mic to use with my Go Pro Hero 3. Anyone using this Mic or what mic have you (are you) using with good results?

I am using the sony ECM-CS3 mic. it is kick ass. sound is beautifully clear for a lavilier mic. only problem with it is I think it needs to be powered. So you need a 3.5mm adapter that can power mics. So that kind of sucks. but it's completely fine for go pro since the go pro adatper powers mics. It's also a stereo mic so you get some good bass out of it. I honestly think it is the BEST SOUNDING lavaliere mic for that price! i think it costs about $20.

I have the Hero4 So I was using the Mic adapter. was using a cheap external lava-leer mic. I had lots of wind noise was really hard to hear. I just upgraded my Bluetooth head set to a Sena 20s and picked up the Sena GP10 BT backpack and that made a world of difference in sound quality. Plus change the wire bulk I had.

Your result will vary by helmet types too. I use a $5 amazon lapel mic in an HJC CL16 taped to the center chin guard.

The Audio-Technica ATR-3350 is the gold standard for vlogging at the moment due to its low sensitivity and clarity. However, I am testing a Polsen OLM-10 at the moment, which seems promising.

It all depends on how important audio is in your videos.

It's not because it has low sensitivity, but rather because it adjusts its sensitivity well. The same effect can be had with a $3 mic and good wind protection/padding.

I use the BOYA BY-GM10. It plugs directly to the USB socket on my gopro 4, so you can get rid the 3.5mm adapter. And its quite cheap around $15-$20. It is powered as well. It works well :)

I'm using the GP10 backpack with a Sena SMH10 and I would NOT recommend it, there is a slight static I cant get rid of and the sound levels are very low. I can boost the audio in post but I prefer using a wired mic as far as quality goes. I plan on getting a 20s eventually.

I use a $30 Sony Stereo mic I got off of Amazon, if you want to reduce wind noise get yourself one of those wind noise reduction thingies, they're crazy cheap.
