Getting A New Helmet, What To Do With The Old?

I've got some old helmets lying around, namely a X-Eleven, Arai XD, and my very used Bell Star. I'm a tad interested in playing around with super thin solar panels on the Star to charge my camera when it's not recording... Also thinking I might make a clown helm... I mean super cool Predator helmet like Walterrific except maybe have a functional air filter like a gas mask built-in with pod filters.

Just throwing out some ideas because I'm in the process of a clean sweep of my garage and I'd rather not have ratty old beater lids hanging around if they aren't an interesting work-in-progress I can complete in a week or so. Wish my son were older so we could do some experiments...

I suppose I could cut one apart with a grinder.

plant hanging basket or an ornament? or let kids have them to play with

My wife likes plants. That might just work if I find plant stands that fit em! They're not too ragged, but they're all way beyond the recommended life (8+ years). Might be cool to sticker one up with vlogger friends' logos and save it as a passenger lid.

Turn it into a hanging basket so you dont need it to fit anything, does mean destroying it with drilling holes for water to pass through

You can't really sell them, because people will start wearing them and think themselves protected. If they are in the way I would just chuck em. Yeah you paid good money for them, but they end up paperweights after 5 years. (Although any helmet is better than no helmet imho).

Take all the insides out, cut the top off, graft a flat bottom onto it, turn it upside down and use it as a fruit bowl :D

Yeah, that's the main reason I'm no longer wearing them, and probably why I'll never own more than two to three helmets at a time (autocross, daily/track, adventure). Sucks to spend so much money on something only to have it be worthless in ~5 years. Glad I found my latest for $360... (normally $650)

If you are in the USA you could get someone to turn them into a cool custom helmet? Back Road Moto does that sort of stuff.

I'd like to go DIY, but he's got some interesting 'Rat Rod' graphics. Looks easily doable with an enamel paint pen.

I would try to keep them probably as a display, but before that clean them up and de-stink them. Haha. If you have a garden could place them like the garden gnomes.

A proper defunk would require new liners. If I go there I'll probably relegate them to offroad duty once I get some dirtbikes.

I like to keep my old helmets as trophies and so that someone else has something to possibly use if they want to put around.

I put all of mine, new or old, in a display case from IKEA, but I did see someone take their old lids and make a helmet lamp post out of it - coolest thing I have seen done with old ones.
