Gap between files on Drift HD Ghost

So due to the format of the memory card it stops the recording and starts again at 4GB. Not an issue, but I'm losing about 4 seconds of video when this happens.

Am I being an idiot and missing the setting to stop this happening? I know that cheaper camera's can handle an overlap so I'm sure the drift can.

No, it's a hardware limitation. Check your files, they don't stop at 4GiB but at about 3GiB and 28~29 minutes.

These are all my files captured with a similar camera at different resolutions.
They all stop at about 28:59 minutes and don't get close to 3GiB.

The file size isn't an issue, I understand that's a fat32 limitation.

It's the loss of video between files that's an issue. And when cheapo chinese cams can handle this I'd expect the drift to be able to.

The camera's low level firmware is programmed to stop recording at 29 minutes. The limit is not because of the filesystem of the card like on other cameras. There's a script that restarts the recording process after a set delay to make sure the camera finished recording and properly saved the files. It's a worst-case scenario timer but there is no way of modifying it.
You'll have to deal with it. There is no way around it.

Oh right, well that's not very good then is it!

Guess I'll have to learn to stop start myself at set intervals

Set a timer or something like that and don't vlog on "unsafe" times. That is, when getting closer to 28:58 minutes because that's where the cut happens.

have only used gopro cams really, they also split the fottage but there is no break as long as what you described here.

I have been thinking of getting a drift as a helmet cam soonish. are you saying every drift has this 4 second break? even 1 sec would be very annoying xD

guess i m not getting a drift now

I have learned to stop start my drift ghost at roughly 5 mins max (usually just pick a boring and safe time).
This means I haven't experienced the problem mentioned - but also I have found it a huge bonus when loading files into the editing software. I only need to load up the relevant files that I want to include footage from - so much quicker!

My ghost regularly switches at 29:58 .... I lose a couple words here and there.... Not bothered too much by it... It's not like I can't Vlog ever again?

It's not the end of the world, and I'm still happy with the camera, it just seems poor that it does suffer from this issue.

The Drift HD has a different hardware and doesn't do the 29 minute thing but yeah, different hardware means previous generation (and discontinued) hardware so the video quality is not as fancy as the latest cameras. Not that it matters for youtube since the videos get downsampled anyway.

Should say though.... The first few times it happened ... And I didn't know what the heck was going on.... I was cussing at the wrist remote... Thought it was playing up in the buttons and with a jiggle on the road was stop/starting the camera..... Lol .... Then I noticed the consecutive 29:58's and asked a question or two on here and the light dawned....

Mentioning the wrist remote.... Drift says it isn't waterproof ... And I'm not going to take it underwater to test it!!..

But I can report that with the little USB cover thingy in place.... I have ridden in some hellacious rain last week with nary a drama! ... So water resistant! .... Think it just be the pressure of water depth that would kill it?
