Flew Into Fireworks!

Finally got my Phantom 3 Standard that I won working. Flew it for the first time on the 4th and got some really neat aerial fireworks video. The technology is amazing...I first strapped a camera to a RC plane back in 2002. Come a long way since then.

Cool video.

The DJI line of Quadrocopters certainly enables anyone to just pick up one of these from their local store, then fly like a Pro !!! The Quads are so stable plus basically fly themselves !

Much like how HD GoPro cameras have transformed action videos, uploaded to YouTube!

I've built a handful of Quads / Tri's, from the Frame up... Motors, ESCs, Flight controller, electronics, R/C, etc.
However my focus (funds) has more recently been on my Bike.

I remember strapping a camera to my RC airplane back in the late 90s/early 2000s. I've been into RC since I was 13. Flew nitro helis for a while too, freaking balancing a ball bearing on a sheet of glass! Wanted to get into real aerial video back then with a gas powered Predator heli....but time, college and technology all passed up that dream.

Now it is SO easy to get great footage with these out of the box quads. Sad that it's no longer just for people who put in the hours, but awesome at the same time for the advancement in cameras and accessability.

Sounds like we have a few things in common! I never flew nitro helis, but did fly electric (mainly 450 class). Thunder Tiger / etc.
Moved over to the Quads, when I got tired of rebuilding the rotor head / swash, for what felt like the 100th time!!!! :D

I also fly / flew planes and have been flying them FPV (First Person View), which is what I was doing with my Race Quad, until I sold it more recently, to fund my biking hobby. ;) FPV is a whole new perspective.

I love the DJI Quads, was planning to pickup the Flight Controller / GPS components, for a larger photography Quad platform.
Certainly cheaper building your own, plus the learning curve is much steeper, but you usually encounter various complications, which you have to overcome. Thats the beauty of he commerical kits, such as the Phantoms, it all JUST WORKS :D with fantastic results...

Have you incorporated any of your Phantom videos with biking?

No, but I have with jet ski racing just recently. It's on my channel. Haven't really ridden bikes in a long time. Too hot and just uninterested these days. Too focused on competing and building my skis.

This is awesome! I'd love a drone like this but can't justify the cost, so expensive.

Did you not worry one of the fireworks might hit and blow it up?

Not really, it did get hit. But that far up in the air the small pieces don't really pack a punch. Hitting a bug flying would probably do more damage.

Fair enough. It'd be interesting to watch a direct hit from this beasty, though maybe with something a little cheaper ;)

^ That's another plus to building you own... much cheaper as you buy parts as you build (well you don't experience the big hit of a complete Quad from some store anyway), plus all the various component options are available to choose from. So you could build your Quad up, based on its purpose, be it a small 250 size super fast Race Quad, to a large 450 - 600 size Hexacopter or similar, for aerial photography, FPV, or just loitering.

Seems a good idea but I'd have no clue what I'm doing building a drone haha. Just shopped around for the Phantom 3 used in the vid, actually surprised at the price! Ones I've seen in shops before have been £700+, but does £430 ish sound reasonable for the phantom 3 standard?
