I have had bikes tip over, seen Metro Nashville motor officers lay theirs on its side, and a set saved my legs in 1995 and again in 2010.
They state they are NOT designed to really withstand a crash though.

Do they make the bike look odd?My bike has crash guards, around engine and under side cases. I've laid the bike down, while stationary, or moving very slow speeds, couple of times. No damages to the bike. If I did not have the crash guards, my engine covers would most likely be scratched.
You on a valcarie?@Mr. G Not really, they follow the lines of the bike. It has a flat6 engine, so it is somewhat different from V2 anyway.
