If I had an engine guards on my v star It may have prevented the damage that was done to. I hate the look so I still don't have one. Am I crazy?

Some call them crash bars. Here is the classic style

Yes, you might be crazy.

I have had bikes tip over, seen Metro Nashville motor officers lay theirs on its side, and a set saved my legs in 1995 and again in 2010.

They state they are NOT designed to really withstand a crash though.

They don't make you bullet proof though. My friend let their girlfriend ride their motorcycle solo. She went wide in a curve and went against the guardrail. Broke her right femur as she was thrown over the rail.

At least she did not have the bike and rail pin the leg to the point of amputation.

This is exactly what, the guard would look, like for my,bike.,,I like my bagger without it. I saw a guy at a demo ride drop a 40,000 c.v.o.

My bike has crash guards, around engine and under side cases. I've laid the bike down, while stationary, or moving very slow speeds, couple of times. No damages to the bike. If I did not have the crash guards, my engine covers would most likely be scratched.

Do they make the bike look odd?

@Mr. G Not really, they follow the lines of the bike. It has a flat6 engine, so it is somewhat different from V2 anyway.

I think it is totally down to the owner.

Put a pic up of your bike. If its the classic cruiser look then yes they may look good.

Crash bars on mine I dont like the look of.

I know its not about looks but it still kinda is haha
