Electric Harley Davidson

Harley Davidson have revealed an electric bike and it looks gorgeous. The advert for it is below:

That is not the final production model. They are going to spend the next 1 - 2 years taking it around the world for people to ride and see and give feedback on, then hopefully they will finalise a production model and it will go on sale. What are your thoughts on this?

I would be willing to test ride it when it comes out and see if it lives up to the fame that they will probably put towards this bike. To me, it looks like an intriguing bike, but not sure about that strip of a headlight. I do like my new bike from Honda, mainly because of the LEDs all around, and that is what was one of the main reasons I got it, for improved visibility as you can see from my "Going Home from work 6-13-2014" video. To me, and this is my opinion, and that is Homda outdid themselves with this bike. I have never ridden an all LED bike before, so I am definitely impressed. To me, this video pretty much sums it up when it comes to innovation at:
,
but to ride it is amazing. It is a heavy bike, but so far, it seems to be comfortable. I just wonder if Harley will make a model like this to where Bluetooth is integrated into the bike.

I'm not a Harley guy, but could this be the motorcycle of the future :o ??? I wonder what it's range it :p ...

renegadebiker24 - Kind'a looks like an old Army Jeep headlight, doesn't it ;) ???

True, it could be the "motorcycle of the future" but I wonder if it will get better gas mileage than the Tesla Electric car. I have yet to see the same kind of features that are on my ride in that of a Harley, like the integrated Bluetooth, or the water cooled feature. I hate to say this, but I am slowly being converted from a Harley guy to a Honda guy. LOL. It seems that the Honda name has always been that of reliability imho, but I will see as the months tick away and the miles are put on my bike, before I can really make a statement that Hondas are better than that of Harleys when it comes to maintenance, repair value, and resell value (that is, if I ever did want to sell it, which right now, that would be not possible), since I am starting to grow to like it. :)

Yep, it does look like an old Army Jeep headlight, but I think the headlight on the old Army Jeeps looked like they went horizontal instead of Vertical like this one.

Argh..... this thing looks like a rolling prune, makes me want to go take a big dump. Oh wait... H-D already did that for me, lol.

LOL, a rolling prune, huh? LOL !!! I really think that if Harley really wants to compete, to me, they would make an all LED bike, as well as put some of the features that are in my bike, come standard with the motorcycle, like the Bluetooth setup, and other features. To me, the design of the electric bike is not what I would envision an electric bike to be, imho. It more looks like somewhat of a naked bike with no saddlebags imho, but I really do not like that headlight. Looks like they need to redesign that headlight, because I really do not think that headlight would be very beneficial at night when it comes to seeing a broader view of the road instead of a narrow view.

Yep :D ~

...the bike does look different, though. It looks more futuristic than anything else... unlike their usual "hog" look.....

Yep :D ~

Futuristic? The rear end looks like it's off an old bobber. The front brake looks like it came from a 49cc scooter, lol, then again with a probable top speed around 85 mph that's all it needs. It actually shares a lot of design cues from their other tractors.... uh I mean bikes. With it's impressive 30-40 mile range, all it's good for is a quick trip to the local Starbucks. If that's all you want from a machine - I guess it's a success. For folks that actually want to ride their bike in a somewhat meaningful way, this, along with all other electric bikes, is a failure and have a LONG way to go to be a viable alternative.

True, it does look different, but as a viable motorcycle, I still have yet to see what the mpg or in this case the miles between electrical hookups (mpeh), (if that will ever become a normal word in describing electrical vehicles or motorcycles. LOL!!) will be on this bike. True, it is a far cry from the usual "Hog" look, but maybe that is what they are trying to go for, more of a cafe' racer kind of look, or the yuppie market. To me, I some how can not get past this "cafe' racer" look to where it maybe Harley Davidson is trying to get into the "electric" craze that there seems to be with some cars lately. I would like to find out, if and when it comes out, if it would get more miles versus a regular carb or v-twin gasoline powered engine that they currently have on the market, or if it will only be good for a 30-40 mile range like xxx526 says. If that is the case, then Harley may have tapped the "yuppie market", and that is probably what they are aiming for right now with this bike, imho. If they improve on the style and maybe the range, and the mpeh, I could see Harley becoming a leader in that area as a viable alternative, imho.

Guys, I'm not saying that this thing IS the future (although that's pretty much what I typed :p )... what I really mean is that it might be a stepping stone to something along the lines in the future. We all know oil isn't going to last forever, so better begin trying to invent something alternative now and make it better instead of waiting until the last second & just have this. That's all I'm saying ;) .....

...also, it does look like something from Star Wars... or Blade Runner, possibly :p ~.....

(of course, now that I read what I did type above, I did compare it to a hog ~_~ .....)

No worries, I understand :) True, oil is not going to last forever, and I think so far as inventing something alternative., I really wish they would have done this a long time ago. I think you are right, It may look something like from Blade Runner. or Star Wars. I guess innovation does take a while to come for some companies. LOL :)

That... has no soul. Guess I am the old generation. I don't think anything with an electric motor will ever be able to wow me like something that burns fossil fuels.

I think a lot of people who are doubting electric bikes will change their minds when they try one. The amount of power they have is crazy and you don't have to worry about gear changing just twist that throttle as far as it will go and hold on for your life.

H-D isn't the first with an electric, there's several out there that have beat it to the punch. I do accept that someday..... electrics will improve to a point that they will be actually usable for the average person, I'm just not excited in any way about what is currently on the horizon. We can still squeeze a lot of performance out of fossil-fuel engines if required. I'm a lot more excited about the trend of the smaller cc bikes that are coming out (Honda, Kawi 300cc, 500cc ect.).
