what editing software do you use?

ive got cyberlink power director and struggling with it, seems a bit complicated for me.

Videopad, you get the free 30 day trail. When that runs out you can upgrade to the paid version (£20ish) or stay on the free version. Great software for editing, as long as you don't want to get really complicated transitions, overlays ect. For motovlogs it dies the job extremely well. However I'd still prefer to have final cut pro, but can't justify the cost.

Wouldn't windows movie maker do the trick?
I'm planning on using that until I get myself a laptop/notebook and use it purely for all my vlogging needs

Videopad is a a similar model as wmm, but a lot better, and it's still free.

Premier Pro, which I find easy to do basic edits in but a little harder to do fancy stuff. But in all honesty I found all editors for films a little complicated when I first started. But I do like Premier and as its an adobe product it has loads of online help and tutorials.

I'm a reluctant user of Adobe premier pro.

My first few videos were made on Sony Vegas, a piece of software I've been using for a good number of years. In my opinion they were so much better put together and came out with much better quality than since I made the switch to pro. Find it much harder to do anything at all in pro.

ive got version 8

That's what I use, it's ok, apart from when it crashes. (Even worse it has no 720p MP4 format!!!!!!!!!!)

Best way to get used to it is just experiment with different things, that's how you learn! Or watch the YouTube how-to videos, there are some good ones for PowerDirector. I sort of like it, but there are still better editing software packages out there.

I've been using Adobe premier pro since I started and am thinking about making the jump to final cut. I agree its complicated though.

To the OP I'd recommend looking for a piece of software based on the time you want to spend learning it. The pro level software only gets you good results if you spend the time learning it. Not a lot of people have that time to invest.

Im a proud owner of a "discounted" copy of Final Cut Pro X. Its an amazing bit of software. but at times a bit baffling when using the addon programmes.

I used Final Cut Pro when I did Film and Media studies at college. Found it pretty similar to Premier Pro.

I seriously have a problem using anything thats no Vegas. Its not that its hard, its just that I don't find it anywhere near as good for a variety of reasons.

I used WMM at first which is great and easy, but you lose so much quality that when I switched to HD cams it makes a huge difference (even the Windows 7 HD version of WMM).

So I tried a few free ones and looked at reviews and eventually 'bought' *ahem* ;) Corel VideoStudio Pro X3.

Quality is great, and for simple editing (add an intro, cut footage, create in chosen format) it's straight forward, with loads of extras I'll never use and some useful stuff like fades that I do.

It can get a bit complicated and was a bit of a bugger to work at first - but that's probably more down to a Monkey In Charge error.

The only problem I find is when you're actually editing the footage it plays very jerkily so that bit isn't ideal, but it's still useable. It makes it a right mission to overlay text on the right bit of footage, though - like in this vid:

I never realised just how much of a minefield it is out there until I decided to upgrade. You could spend a hell of a lot of money and get software that's pretty much useless! I'll be sticking with Corel for a while, because it's plusses far outweigh the niggly things, so far.

This ^

Also I use after effects for the stuff that isn't just cutting and pasting. It's complicated but easy to learn. Haven't needed it on my vlogs yet, however.

Used WMM variations for a long time along with PowerDirector 8. Tried the trial version's of VideoPad and Vegas not long ago and found them similar to PD so I just went ahead and bought PD10, since I was familiar. It get's finicky if you do too much all at once but I like the results when the planets line up. Never had an issue with WMM that I didn't find a fix for and no problems converting the Drift .mov files. I only upload in 720, which is the camera setting and also shoot at 60fps.

Just a heads up, when you upload to YouTube they automatically convert 60fps video into 30fps. Though if you use the 60fps footage for half speed slow motion it works out at 30fps when you upload.
