Ebay Worries

Hi all,

But if a story to this one but would appreciate the help!

Okay so I had a limited edition cruiser, however it's made by a non mainstream manufactuar, so didn't get good offers from bike shops as px or to buy so thought I would try it on eBay.

So before putting it up I took it to the local garage and said if they could MOT it and check it all out - they state it needs a new altinator and generator so add that and it all comes to £500. - but thought at least I can now sell it with a clear conscience.

I had never sold anything ob eBay before, bought stuff so have good rating but never sold stuff. - so put this bike up for 10 days and have quite a bit of interest with people coming to look at it then bid on it; but in last second a guy wins who hadn't been to see it. -beating a guy who had viewed it by £1 (on the description I had put about due to electrical difficulties in the past bike will be sold as seen- and I highly recommend viewings)

So he comes down the next day - and starts haggling over everything - wanting me to knock £130 off to make him happy- he came across quite intimidating ( and I'm 6foot2 and an ex boxer so that takes some doing) so in the end I knock £30 off. He pays -but says he's taking it for a test ride and if he doesn't like it wants money back - but had a ride and said its not up to his standard but will still be happy to take it.

So sign all paperwork transferring bike to him (well his company) and he goes off, get a text later saying "Just arrived home and seen front fork Seals has oil leakage. I hope this is end of surprises."

Now if any other faults develop with the bike over next few days/ weeks/ months does he have the right to ask for money back?

Sorry it's been such a long message, hope it all makes sense! Also anyone else had experienced like this on eBay?

People can be idiots. You're buying a used bike at a fair price. Just accept it, don't try to haggle when a price is already agreed upon. It's annoying.

Basically, the transaction is done. If you were upfront and honest about the bike then the deal is done. But some people will try to look for things and then try to get money back from you even if you had no idea about an issue or if they even caused it themselves.

I hope you met him at a public place and not your home. If so, just be done with it. He's got the bike, he haggled you down and it's over. Walk away man. Don't lose sleep over it. Sounds like you did right having it checked and fixed and he's an ass.

Thank you, yer well when the garage gave it back they said it was a good bit of kit and if I was keeping it, I would have loved to keep it but can't justify having 2 bikes at the moment and this was my fair weather bike only where as my Z750 gets used all year.

So this one had to go.

Thanks again for quick reply has calmed me a lot!

I would have just pointed him to ebay's terms and conditions, you bid you buy.

Don't like it then piss off.

People are silly, they purchase something without seeing it and then have issues? I sold one of my bikes a few years ago to someone for the full asking price and who bank transferred the money over, he never came to see it once and we never even spoke to him on the phone... he then arranged for a bike courier to collect it and take it to him. But when I went to sell the KTM, I had nothing but more issues trying to swap for classic cars, boats, cars and all sorts.. then the 'I'm happy to pay for it in full" but never turn up/ respond to calls etc. I hate selling bikes on eBay in my opinion out of the 10 people that'll message you etc, there's only one actual serious person in that crowd.

If this guy want's a comeback, he should of came in hand with a contract. He's purchased a used vehicle that's not stated with any guarantee or 'try it for a few days before you commit to own', good luck to him if he tries it but I wouldn't entertain it at all!

You sold your bike through eBay? I have no experience on that, how about you check with eBay support? If you have evidence (photo) of the bike condition when the buyer took it, there's nothing much he can claim against you which you can dispute.

From what I see, he can't ask for his money back. The point of the test ride and coming to see the bike is to check if everything is okay. He's just trying to haggle more. The deal is done.

This happens pretty often when you sell second hand stuff. In India we have quite a few websites for that. Don't sweat it. You're a great guy.

He would have noticed the fork deals while riding it.

They're either blown or they're not. Did he strap the bike down? Some people yank the suspension right down and too much so it's causes issues and can sometimes but rarely pop

But needless to say he brought a sold as seen product . It's his fault if he didn't spot anything

There isn't really an eBay support anymore, I tried to email however all eBay support emails have been didactic acted, st tried to call but they said that they are a selling platform and what happens between seller and buyer isn't their problem

Oh well in that case, once the transaction is complete there's no further action to be done. I would not entertain the guy if he started to piss and moan about the vehicle later. Transfer complete, paperwork done. Deal closed.

Caveat emptor. He saw it, he bought it, tough shit really. You've been upfront, you've not misdescribed, you've done your bit perfectly.

You didn't have to take a penny off the sale price either.
