Drift Or Gopro ?

Mr fish

It's not what , it's how
I'm having a dilemma at the moment ...I like the side mount but the go pro I use is like a wind stop lol and connecting the mic is a pain ..but I like it ..so is the drift just as good as it seems to look more aerodynamic and the mic input seems simpler ..my main concern is waterproofing whilst the mic is connected ..is it the same as gopro ? Make your own waterproof seal ...your input would be welcomed because they're not cheap ...I will keep the gopro as a second camera

I've used my Drift with mic in heavy rain, no real issues, you could tape it up if you were worried though.

Cheers looks a viable option ...do you use 720/60 or 1080/30 ? It doesn't seem to have 1080/60 (not a deal breaker )

I've used both. I lean towards 60fps for the smoothness, and using it for pip in vlogs as a face cam, 720/60 is fine as I shrink it down.

I may get a different cam that can do 1080/60 though, just because.

The drift Ghost does 1080@30fps. The Drift Ghost S does 1080@60fps.

I would say that the Go pro has better video quality, but I opted for the Drift because of its sleeker form.

Sorry, managed to think you were asking about the baby gopro... The Drift S I use in 1080/60.

I've just recorded footage for a comparison between the 60fps modes of the Drift HD Ghost and the Sony Action cam. Should be edited this week.

Sony does 1080/60 and two of them cost the same as the Ghost sold for on eBay!

But isnt the action cam mic input impossible to use?

It's awkward. But not impossible. There are many videos of people hacking the crap out of their waterproof cases to get access.

I'm working on a mod that's a little more delicate and should hopefully retain at least weather resistance and give access to the mic input. Just waiting for the postman with my parts!

Watch this space.

PS..

There is a 'skeleton frame' for dry weather use which leaves the whole bottom of the camera open for access. This can also be used with the AS100 which is splash proof without the waterproof case.

I hope SONY are going to recognise my diplomatic efforts here at some point and Reward my attempts to spread love for their shizzle!!

I've now seen that I am simply the latest convert! Plenty of folks on here already singing the Sony's praises. Funny that when I first started I simply dismissed them and went to the Drift vs Gopro conundrum!

This is why I'm swaying for the drift looks a bit less clumsy ..apart from having spongebob on the side of my lid I love the go pro :-)

If you want the best quality I would say go for Sony as100v or a gopro 3 or 4 ( i prefer sony) but if you want something quick and simple then go for the drift. Most people use drift because it looks better on the helmet and is simple.

I have all three cameras and I use the drift 9 times out of 10 because of ease of use. Literally just clip in on helmet and press record no case or mount arms to fool with. All the cameras are good though it really comes down to which one you think you would rather deal with. I got annoyed with dealing with the waterproof case of the gopro so I no longer vlog with it.

go pro has better audio unless you get clever with the drift mic. i'd chin mount a gopro to be honest. either way you'll be happy
