Dobbing People In?

There are a few on YouTube using cams who will put the registration of other vehicles doing daft stuff. Some take that even further and actually report them to the Police.

Do you?

Personally, whilst I won't blur out their reg, there's no way I'd report anyone, and it irritates me. It seems to be mainly cyclists who do this (and I subscibe to some of them), but doesn't it all seem a bit... petty?

If I witnessed something REALLY serious then I might put my footage forward, but despite having many close calls on there and being told I 'should report it', I've never even come close. People make mistakes - others are just crap. I choose to get over it and carry on.

When you say cyclists do you mean bicyclists? If so that's very ironic. I don't know what bicycle riders are like there but I've seen more accidents or near accidents caused by bicyclists than cars. Here they seem to have a sense of entitlement. They want everyone else to share the road but they don't want to follow the laws and take responsibility when they screw up.

Over here quiet alot of cyclists (bicyclists) report them all the time.

Theres one rides in the centre of the road then when a car overtakes & he deems it too dangerous he will shout at them asking them to stop or put their reg online.

I thought you had to ask permission before showing other peoples personal business or something along them lines?

You would think these people learn from their experiances & "Life threatening situations".

I'm not a fan of pedal pushers. Most of the ones I know are hypocrites and self righteous cock knockers!

especially the ones in spandex!!

If the offence is serious I will do something about it, a recent event on the forum is an example....

We get cyclists over here running red lights and completely disregarding the traffic laws all the time, but they say the want the same rights to the roads. Those people drive me nuts. Almost saw one get t-boned by a car because he felt like he didn't need to stop for the red light.

Quoted because it sums my views up perfectly.

There is absolutely no point in reporting someone for driving badly. If you really want to report bad drivers, you'd be there all day.

Lots of the times its just little mistakes. Everyone has them, its human nature. Its the only way we learn.

If you don't learn to get over someone pulling out on your once, you'll have a bloody aneurysm (no pun intended) after riding a little while.

And putting someones reg on youtube and reading it out does absolutely nothing other than make you look silly ;)

What you said is true, I'd say that is pretty obvious on the whole part.

But you can't deny there is a difference between someone making small mistakes and a big deal eg. Someone driving the wrong way around a roundabout or motorway (extreme but you know what I'm getting at).

Someone doing one of these I think the news would have been involved by the time you managed to get chance to let the police know. Hehe  .

I don't get why people waste their time doing it, I mean look at that clip Conrod posted a couple days ago, the cctv didn't get his plate but he was caught. More trouble than it's worse if you ask me, police have enough on their plates, than running around chasing someone who passes a little too close for your liking.

Exactly the same here! When I were a young lad our school ran a 'Cycling Proficiency Test' - teaching The Highway Code and one of the first things they taught us was YOU STOP AT A RED LIGHT! To be fair, it's not so much of a problem around these parts, but seems to be the norm in places like London...

I'm glad I'm not in the minority on this one (about reporting everyone), because looking through youTube I honestly thought I was!

I'm with you on this. My "bad driving" clips are for entertainment and are also posted as a learning experience to lesser experienced motorcyclists, showing what hazards to look out for. The police have enough on their plates without cyclists (and some vloggers) wanting their personal revenge.

also, regarding the privacy comment, there are no laws to privacy outdoors in the UK so there is no obligation to blank plates or faces out.

RLJs aren't cyclists, they're pedestrians on bikes aka POBs.

Give a guy two wheels and gearing to go considerably faster than walking and you'll get many tossers out there. Just as many wankers ride motorbikes and twatbags drive cars.

Me I cycled quite a bit when I was younger, approx 300 miles a week, often more (25 a day for work, 7 days a week plus pleasure rides or visiting mates)

I followed cyclecraft guidelines. Much as the wankers and twatbags out there like to tar us all with the same brush, we do have every right to be on the road and we should be treated like any other vehicle on that road. Minimum 3ft passing distance please.

Would I report someone deliberately being a wanker or twatbag? Putting my life in danger using their vehicle as a weapon. Yes, yes I would.

Would I report someone making an honest mistake? unlikely.

Did I also yell at the red light jumpers, kerb hoppers and no lights brigade that I would invariably overtake further down the road, yep I did.

P.s. I only wore spandex underneath my normal clothes :) that way all the comfort of proper riding shorts minus the looks.
